“If you like it I love it.” December announced raising her glass of sweet tea to her lips.

“Wow, that’s not really the response I was expecting to get from my best friend.” Mia pouted as she wiped the Cesar dressing from her lips. She and December had decided to have lunch at the Bridgeport Café since Mia was a big fan of their Fusion smoothies.

December squeezed her girl’s hand. “Don’t get me wrong hun, I am thrilled for you, I just don’t want to see you caught up in Tinley’s drama.”

Mia stabbed the iceberg lettuce and jammed it into her mouth. Swallowing she said, “How do you figure I am going to get caught up in her drama?”

“You know you cannot trust Tinley. She always has something up her sleeve. I don’t trust her and neither should you.”

“It’s not that I trust her. It’s just she has something that I want, and I have to play her game in order to get it.”

“See?” December shook her head. “And then you have to play these games by seducing a guy. What if he crushes on you? Then what?”

“I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.” Mia took a long swig of her smoothie savoring the whipped cream.

  “You’re better than this, sis.”

  “I know.”

  “Then why do it?”

“Do you realize how long I have been wanting my own column?”

  “Eleven years.”

“Right. Don’t you think I deserve it?”

“Of course I do, but all I am saying is that you trusting Tinley to promote you so that she can get back at her ex just sounds like a recipe for disaster. Then, okay let’s say you do it and she doesn’t follow through with her end of the bargain. Then what?”

“I hear what you’re saying, I really do, but it’s like when will this opportunity present

  itself again?”

“I don’t know,” December answered honestly.

“See? So I feel like I am going to have to go with my gut and take her for her word.”

“Well, it’s settled then. If your gut is telling you to do what you need to do, then do it. I support your decision. I will always have your back, but you know I would not be doing my due diligence if I was not your voice of reason.”

“Thank you, and I appreciate it.” Mia was very grateful for her best friend. Ever since she met December, December had opened her up to what true friendship and sisterhood was all about. December like Marlo was always there no matter what time of the day or night.

December was a selfless, loving, caring individual who treated Mia like she was the sister she never had. Mia’s friendships with other women had always ended with Mia doing more for them and putting more into the friendship where December always met her halfway. They shared their secrets, fears, hopes, and dreams, and Mia could not have asked for a better friend in her.

“Ooh girl, now I remember what I wanted to tell you.” December clapped her hands together super excited.

“What’s up?” Mia giggled enjoying how childlike her friend was becoming by the second.

  “It’s about our anniversary party.”

December and her husband Charles had never had a reception, so to celebrate their fourth year of marriage December, with the help of Mia, was throwing together a reception slash anniversary party for friends and family. December was expecting about one hundred fifty guests.

“I’m happy the guest list has finally been squared away.” Mia shook her head. She had been going through guest list hell for the past couple of weeks, calling people who had not yet RSVP’d. Mia had to politely inform them that the party was taking place in two weeks and they needed to tell her something or they would not be able to attend.

“I am too; I apologize again for some people being uncooperative.”

Mia shrugged. “Hey, I’ve had all of my heart to hearts with everyone, and now I believe we are all on the same page.” The girlfriends shared a look and giggled.

After their giggle fest Mia pointed her fork at her friend. “Does Charles have his outfit together yet?”

December rolled her eyes. “Girl please do not get me started on that man. You know I love my husband dearly, but the man is being a drama king. I told him to get a simple black suit, and now he is taking it to the extreme wanting to get a suit made. Can you believe him? Just because I went out and found that reception style dress, he wants to get a suit made.”

The girlfriends shared a look and died laughing.

“Charles is a major trip.” Mia agreed. “A nice black suit would be more than enough for the occasion.”

“Besides, I told him I don’t think two weeks is enough time to get the suit made in.” December flagged down their waitress explaining she was ready for their bill.

  “I just hope he listens.”

After paying the bill, the girlfriends were back in December’s car headed back work.

“All he has to do is get a nice black suit. I found one for Tristan.” December scrolled through her cell phone then slid the phone over to her best friend.

“He is so adorable.” Mia gushed admiring how good her godson looked in his little black suit and tie.

“Yes he is; now if I can only get his father to follow suit.”

  “One can only hope.”

The girlfriends giggled and gossiped all the way back to the office.
