I feel as if my skull banged against a rock, and I open my eyes to see Rebecca standing over me. I feel something fluffy underneath me. Where am I?
"Molly! Molly, you're okay!"
"What?!” I say, leaping up. I look around and see that I'm sitting in my apartment. "I thought... I thought I was dying."
"But you didn't. Because once again, I saved you."
"What about Jacob?" I say.
"Myself and my other self cried together for a while; that sounds weird but it happened. I told her what he had become, I told her that we had to let him go. I still miss him though, I'll miss him every day."
"I know," I say, grabbing her into a hug. "I'll help you get through this."
"And I'll…" she says, wiping the tears from her face, "help you make amends."
"Make amends?" I say.
"Don't tell me you're so terrible that one of your last thoughts wasn't, if I make it to tomorrow, I'll make everything right."
"How did you know?" I say.
"I just thought of what I would've thought about in my last moments."
"You're right. I just didn't want to die without making amends."
"So that's exactly what we're going to do."
We spend the next several weeks unloading my apartment and bringing back the lost items. With Rebecca's' help, I'm able to track down the people whose personal items I stole and return them. We secretly placed each item back in the museum, hotel, or house from which it was stolen. Headlines mount all over the country, Has The Emerald Thief Gone Soft?, Will She Save An Orphanage Next?, What Are Her True Intentions?, The Emerald Thief May Have Truly Disappeared. What a relief to be able to live a life I always wanted. No longer bound by the chains of an addiction.
Rebecca and I decide to stick together. To play things safe, we move to London. She decides to join the uniform constables. It will take her about five years to become a detectives here. I decide to go to school, I’ll be attending night classes to complete my diploma. I'm finally free to be the person I've always wanted to become.
I sit on the couch in our new apartment and take out my phone. I push the number to dial before my brain can think about procrastinating again. The final amends I have to make. I'm calling my parents.
