On the day before he travelled down to London, Jonathan called Karen. She was back in London now and working in her publisher’s office, catching up on all the work that had landed on her desk during her Christmas and New Year holiday.
“Hello, this is Karen.”
“Karen, this is Jonathan. I’m going to be down in London for a few days. I’ll be coming down on the train tomorrow. I wondered if you might want to get together for lunch?”
“That would be great, Jonathan! How about the day after tomorrow, that’s Wednesday? I’ll give you a call that morning and we can decide where to meet.”
“I’ll speak to you the day after tomorrow, then.”
After she finished the call, Karen thought for a few moments, then she called Mac and told him about Jonathan’s call.
“Ha!” Mac laughed, “I thought he might call. Did he say why he was coming down?”
“No, he just said he would be getting here tomorrow afternoon and wanted to meet me for lunch the next day.”
“So, he didn’t tell you anything?” said Mac.
“No, nothing at all.”
“Good man! He has a good sense of security. Well, I asked him to meet me in London. Can you be available? Usual terms?”
“Sure. How much does Jonathan know.”
“I had him vetted after we met and he’s clean. I’m just going to call Roger and check that the flat is available. I am planning a meeting of the team over dinner at the flat on Wednesday evening and I’ll get Roger to join us. Can you be there?”
“I’d love to, Mac!”
“OK. See you there.”
Mac hung up from Karen’s call and called Roger Gregson’s number. Roger confirmed that the flat was available and said that he would join the rest of the team for dinner the day after tomorrow.
