Read The Bacco Stick Page 4

brought the dying flame close to the newly brushed end of the bacco stick. Sucking slowly, he let the hot dry smoke linger in his lungs before exhaling through the new gap in his teeth. He scrunched up the end of the feather mattress and leaned back against the cold shelf wall.

"That's right, Weasel. You got to feel sad for those dog-lovin kill-for-nothins. A lot of real hurt inside. I think's they maybe hide these good bacco sticks, too, for bait. But we's too smart for that, ain't we weasel? You think they somehow makes the bacco sticks? If so, maybe they ain't really all bad. And all those crazies, who go off looking for the better place. Sheet! All they's got to do is look around some. There ain't no better place beat this, you know, Weasel. Ain't no better place at all."

Mishka continued stroking the soft warm fur of the weasel and took a long deep drag from the hot bacco stick. His deeply lined face melted into a soft and contented smile.

Even the new coughing spasm didn't bother him nearly so much.

  ABOUT ME:

I love to write, period. It's fun, it's rewarding, it's, well fun! I try to keep a lighter feel in my writing, except when the subject is serious enough-like my Fear of Living. I also try to make my Sci-Fi a projection of reasonable science (sort of) but always a story about living, emphasis people!.

I am very happily married to Carol; we live in California; I am retired in name only; and I am disabled-as far as the Marathon or walking goes. We have a lot of fun. Also, three beautiful daughters and six marvelous grand children (growing fast!) live in the Chicago area.
