Description
A group of four young children known as the Boo Club set out for an adventure on Halloween night. Milly, Spider, Jan, and Sam live in the town of Hauntsville, an unordinary town filled with many mysteries. Dressed as matching ghosts, they take off on their bicycles into the night. The Boo Club comes across a spooky old house while trick-or-treating and decides to explore. Inside, they find a thrill that they never expected.
The Haunted Mansion
The sun set in the town of Hauntsville. Orange, yellow, and pink filled the sky as the sun began to slip away and the moon rose high above. Tonight wasn’t just an ordinary night. It was Halloween night. A night said to be filled with ghosts, goblins, and werewolves. The town of Hauntsville wasn’t your everyday town. Some very spooky and unexplained things happened there!
A young group of kids who had been the best of friends for as long as they could remember put the finishing touches on their costumes. They called themselves the “Boo-Club” because they loved investigating all of the spooky mysteries around town. Jan, Spider, Milly, and Sam couldn’t wait to get the night started. They all dressed up as matching ghosts, grabbed their candy buckets, hopped on their bicycles, and away they went.
The town was old and dark and a certain fog hovered low on the ground. They pedaled house-to-house laughing as they’d yell “trick-or-treat”. They were surprised that they didn’t see many other kids out. Where was everybody? It was as if everyone had disappeared! Their candy buckets were starting to fill up as they pedaled up to one last house. This house was known throughout the town as the “Haunted Mansion”. No one ever dared to go there, especially not on Halloween night! It was a large dark brown Victorian style house with a picket fence that was falling apart around the front yard. The gate to the fence was closed but the Boo Club had no intention of letting that stop them. They leaned their bikes against the fence and walked slowly to the gate. The full moon shined brightly on the roof of the house but inside, it was entirely dark. Just then, they noticed a soft orange glowing light coming from an upstairs window. How could that be? No one had lived in the house for years! The children looked at each other and knew that they would have to investigate the mystery.
The gate creaked as it swung open and the four children slowly walked through. There was a large lion doorknocker on the tall dark door. Spider pulled the doorknocker and it made a loud and squeaky knock. With that the door swung open, except for nobody was there. It was pitch black inside. Luckily, Milly had brought a flashlight. She switched it on. Inside of the house there were cobwebs from floor to ceiling. All of the sudden a swooshing and squeaking sound came flying from above and buzzed right over Spider’s head! The four children ducked. Jan let out a shriek. They looked up just as a bat flew out of the front door. With their hearts beating so fast, they looked up the staircase and still saw the same orange glowing light. They crept up the stairs slowly. There were 6 bedroom doors, all closed, except for one. They peaked their heads into the room. There, in the corner, they saw a figure standing behind the glowing light.
As they looked carefully through the dimly lit room, they realized it was a ghost! The ghost pointed to the wall. There on the wall were the words, “Go to the basement if you dare!” Jan and Milly screamed and dropped the flashlight. Spider picked it back up as they all ran out of the room and back down the staircase. What was in the basement, and were they brave enough to go into it?
The four ran back out of the front door towards their bikes. They needed to talk this over! It could be dangerous, but nothing could stop the Boo Club. They huddled together in a small circle and whispered about what they should do. Finally, they had made a decision. They were ready for an adventure, so they headed back into the house.
The floorboards creaked as they tiptoed across the living room in search of the basement door. All of the sudden, they heard a sound. It sounded like a whisper. They heard it again, but this time it was much louder and it said, “Boo!” The children ran towards the back of the house. They couldn’t quit now, they knew the basement must be close. Was it a ghost that had whispered to them or was it someone following them? They were filled with both fear and excitement.
Finally, Milly shined her flashlight down a long hallway. There in the light was an old red door. They put their ears to the door to check if they could hear anything. They looked at each other in surprise when they heard a noise from behind the door. It sounded like music! They slowly opened the door and began to creep down the long staircase into the basement. The music had stopped and the basement was dark. Spider grabbed the flashlight and led the way. They thought they could hear whispers and giggling laughter. Spider was so afraid that the flashlight in his hand began to tremble!
