  ‘She believed that your mother was a potential carrier’

  ‘You didn’t?’ Iszalie said firmly

  ‘No. But your father was a romantic fool, so he supported this woman. He wanted a united world.’

  Iszalie leant over her grandmother ‘Did you know it would kill her’

  The old woman glared at Iszalie ferociously ‘If your mother was not so stupid to try and use the Estrus she would still be alive today. She needed only wait till the time was right’

  Iszalie ignored the last comment and began pacing the room. She stopped and looked coldly at her grandmother.

  ‘What do you believe in?’

  ‘The power of Aelia.’ The old woman replied viciously.’ I’m tired, please leave now’

  Iszalie moved to object but was stopped by Jacob, who laid a hand on her arm. She swiftly slapped it off and glared at him. The old woman began to softly rock again, and calmly looked at her granddaughter

  ‘Just remember your obligation little one and everything will be fine.’

  Jacob swore he saw Iszalie shiver. She turned and moved toward the door.

  ‘One more thing.’ Iszalie asked not looking at her grandmother,

  'Did you play a part in the destruction of Luia?'

  Iszalie did not need to turn around to feel the old woman’s smile of acknowledgement.
