The creator’s twin sister was summoned once more.
“Did your brother’s creation performed as you planned?”
“No I thought there could be a peaceful outcome. The being performed as my brother planned. Except the creature’s thoughts were redirected.”
“We too hoped for a peaceful outcome, we don’t hold that against you, we gave Gabriel the option to choose or not choose. It was his decision that brought about the undesired result.” They allowed her time to bow in acceptance of the verdict before they continued. “But the being was able to coincide with the Light and the Dark. This was what we found most fascinating. How did you achieve this?”
“By blending the will of God with the matter of Darkness used to create the being. The process was quite simple actually. It was the creature that was complex. Its mind moved nearly as fast as my own. It could in time surpass Gabriel in wisdom. It’s not gifted with his intellect, but the thought processes of this one are far greater, with a tremendous capacity for learning and storing knowledge. It was designed to be a God.”
“This we know, this was why your brother was punished. But if it is possible with this one for you to manipulate your brother's calculations in terms of the Light, then you could do this to his other creations as well.”
“Do you mean the ones he has stored in his lab, but yet to animate?”
“Yes, these are the ones of which we speak.”
“Then I would assume that you are entertaining the notion that he was right, that you plan on building a new generation starting from chaos?”
“We have no intention on destroying our own realm. But we intend on you to help us in creating a new one. Your brother’s pride prevented him from achieving this honor. Your humility has destined you for the task. Work with all that is available to create a new species, we will create a world in which to observe this theory.”
“I will do as you ask.”
“Very well, we are pleased with you.”
She bowed low in respect and departed for the laboratory.
Lucifer was a solitary angel. He wasn’t created to socialize. During the conflict he seemed to know precisely what to do and how to act. But now in time of peace he was confused. There was so much to learn.
What does a hero do, when not being a hero?
Lucifer set himself to studying. He had an insatiable desire to find out everything.
He didn’t just want to know how things worked, but why they were there in the first place. He needed to tear everything down to its basics, get to the beginning of things. Then and only then could sense be derived from the answers to the burning questions in his soul?
Gabriel took notice of the young angel’s interest in study with mild trepidation. Gabriel had been created the wisest of beings. His place in heaven was assured by this fact. Lucifer seemed to him to be competing and this didn’t sit well.
Gabriel had to devise a plan to keep his new captain busy.
“Lucifer, you’re the only angel worthy to patrol the outer rim. Darkness has been expelled, but not defeated. I need you to keep them in line and see to it that they don’t rise again.”
Lucifer was actually happy to have a purpose. He rose from his studies and saluted his general.
“Thank you, I won’t let you down, sir.”
In the laboratory the goddess was perusing the inventory. She came across a pair of interesting subjects. One was large, constructed similar to Chronis, a being of shear brute strength. The extreme capabilities of this one were created to be a slightly more intelligent, slightly more dexterous, but ultimately more controllable version of her brother’s grand designed general. This one could have been the captain maybe, or maybe Chronis replacement?
The next subject she found even more fascinating, though quite disturbing. It was an extremely handsome angel. This one she was drawn to. It was a more alluring version of her own creation, Gabriel. She gazed at the inanimate version for hours. This one was made to be her downfall. Her brother truly did have designs on a conquest of heaven. Everyone and everything had a replacement here or a tool for him to achieve his notions.
She fought the desires that were burning in her innermost thoughts for this creature spread out on the slab as she went back about her duty. But those thoughts of him kept creeping into her head and clouding her judgment.
She knew the physical capabilities of this one couldn’t match those of Lucifer. But if she programmed its brain to function like Gabriel’s and she designed a greater weapon maybe it could defeat her brother’s ultimate design and then…
She fought her daydreams back. She had an assignment to carry out. She set about creating a lesser creation with a greater potential. To prove the theory these would have to be learning creatures with improvement and perfection to be the goal. Much in the same way her brother had developed Lucifer.
In the laboratory her mind was drawn back to her innate gift of creation and off of her present distraction in the other room. She hurried through her work tirelessly and to near perfection. But the feelings she fought she couldn’t deny. And she couldn’t hide them from God or her new creation, lust. She had constructed the new beings with this flaw inherent. She tried to overlook this, but it was becoming her undoing.
She allowed her mind to wander occasionally, and in this amused state she crafted a weapon, much like Lucifer’s. But to this one she added a Holy spark. It could ignite and flame up intensely. Maybe her fascination wasn’t what was intended by the Godhead. But she wanted to protect this handsome stranger she dreamed of constantly from the threat of Lucifer. Why, she didn’t know?
She was again called before God.
“Oestara, your brother’s failing was pride, a weakness of the mind. Yours is one of the heart. To judge one against the other is pointless. If one is greater or lesser is for debate. But selfish is selfish whether prideful or lustful, both are failings. All creatures manifested by you and your brother contain these elements. Hidden behind them is deceit and this is intolerable”
The goddess bowed in disgrace.
“Forgive me my Lords. I find myself weak.”
“Your humility is noted. Your punishment will be less severe. You shall serve no one but your lust. We pray that you overcome this. But as your brother before you, you shall be part of your own experiment. Unlike him your capabilities shall be intact, but your memories shall be gone of this place. As you desire for lust you shall no longer be a creature of the Light. To overcome the Darkness you must learn to overcome your temptation and journey back to this side of the dawn.”
The goddess had never risen from her humble position. A tear had begun to stain her cheek and slowly drip to the floor. As it hit the ground she dissipated with the splash.
The Godhead seemed pleased.
The experiment has begun. The war in heaven has produced its necessary results. The new world is complete and populated. The participants are now in place, we shall now animate the last two angels, Dagon and Michael and let the fall of the angels begin.
So it was that Gabriel ordered Dagon the beast, and Michael the handsome one to become lieutenants of Lucifer in charge of keeping peace in heaven. Dagon spent most of his time with Lucifer, while Michael seemed young and awkward and was often left behind under Gabriel’s tutelage where he seemed to excel. Despite the capabilities of these Archangels it was an impossible task. Heaven was immersed in sin. And they too were unknowingly part of this experiment.
Gabriel was summoned to his place before the Godhead.
Gabriel bowed his head as he entered the room of Lights.
“Gabriel we have summoned you before us in order to ascertain a thought of wisdom.”
Gabriel even though his head was still bowed, couldn’t hide his confusion.
“From me?”
“You were created the wisest of beings were you not?”
“My Lords, that is what you tell me.”
“That is why we must ascertain this wisdom from you.”
Gabrie
l was loath to look up into the penetrating gaze of the Godhead. But he brought himself to.
“What is it you seek?”
“On the plain of Gray, the land between Light and Dark we delivered to you a new creation along with a note, do you remember?”
Gabriel allowed a smile to cross his lips.
“How could I forget?”
“Where is the note?”
“Why?”
“We wish to ascertain its meaning. We would like you to describe for us what it says and what it means?”
Gabriel’s smile swiftly faded and his gaze lowered.
“I don’t have the note my Lords…”
“What did the note say?”
“I cannot remember…”
“Did you read the note?”
“Vaguely my Lords, it was a trying day, I had…”
“Silence!” He was cut off mid-sentence by the overpowering voice of God. “If we wanted to hear excuses we would have asked for them.”
“I’m sorry my Lords. I don’t recall reading it, or what the note said.”
“What became of the note of the Godhead?”
Gabriel stood in scared silence.
The room of Lights began to change from peaceful white to a cold shade of blue.
“Gabriel! What became of the note?”
Gabriel’s mouth was dry, his mind was racing and he could barely whisper.
“I dropped it my Lords…”
Ice began forming in the Hall of Light as the color became a deeper tone of blue. Gabriel’s breath was streaming out in labored fog as he was growing increasingly uncomfortable. The Godhead after an extended moment of this torture finally spoke to the leading Archangel.
“You may go, Gabriel.”
Gabriel nervously nodded, bowed low and dismissed himself.
Across Heaven the note blew into the realm of the Darkness.
And into the in the clutch of the female twin of the creator, the note read ‘Use this one wisely’.
She felt the cold blast of the winter of Heaven across her face. She tucked the note inside her tunic next to her heart and smiled to herself.
“I will…” She laughed as she turned and headed deeper into the darkness.
