Dunky Creek
(The last battle over the rocks of Jeg)
The village of Chesapeake had a problem with the field folks
They spoke bullheaded and used rude jokes
It is time for the city and the country folks to have a face off
Just then an owl flew from the barn loft
Soldiers gladly walked into battle
Horses were mounted with bridle and saddle
Teenage girls wore yellow uniforms
Young men trained outside their dorms
Blacksmiths said that it’s only a feud
But the farmers were in a nasty mood
Church bells rang and the kids cheered
Elderly folks thought this was a bit weird
Grandmothers cooked and served stew
Allied supporters stood along fifth avenue
It’s a fight that can not be lost
The stakes are high to count the cost
Marching past the town drugstore
Mothers watched as their boys went to war
Across the bridge out of Chesapeake
Soldiers headed for Dunky Creek
This will be a tale that will last for decades
The hardware store sold out of sharp blades
Dressed in blue jeans, soldiers will have a confrontation
As the little kids head for summer vacation
A storm rolls in and skies turn black
We are seconds away from the attack
Crawling over blueberry bushes and barbed wire fence
Showing that the soldiers had no common sense
Waging war against the rural farmers
“We need control of the creek,” yelled Donnie Larmier
Lieutenant Marshall led the city troops
Farmers had ten men in six groups
Farmers raced to the middle of the woods
To fight the city folks wearing black hoods
Weapons made of baseball bats and tomato stakes
Shovels, hoes and garden rakes
This is the fight over Dunky Creek
The talk of the town all week
The city men met the farmers halfway
The edge of the valley on the banks of clay
Thirty-one men from town stood in the field
Where last year ten farmers were killed
By three o’clock the battle had begun
Showing the force of the country man’s power
This isn’t a war, it is an onslaught !
Soldiers heated up their swords…they were hot !
There is blood shed all over the water bank
They crazy creek where the horses drank
Four country men were cut in the leg
And thrown over the rocks of Jeg
It’s the epic of the Dunky Creek War
The battle was nearly over by four
Twelve more troops were sent into battle
Eight of them riding horse and saddle
The men that plowed the field were on a rampage
The bloody apple orchard now set the stage
Rakes were swung at men on horseback
It was a strategy that the city men lacked
Dropping like flies the solders fell
Two of them collapsed over a rail
When it all ended they laid down their swords
Farmers and town’s men all praised the Lord
We are all brothers, will no longer fight
The church was packed full that very night !
The One Who Reigns
All the problems that surround me
Everyone has their own issues
There is an answer that reigns from above
Most of the time He is ignored
There are no sacrifices at the altar
It is a toll free call open all day and night
A good Friend indeed, there is none better !
No religion or politics in this relationship
There is One who understands and cares
One who can get you through your problems
Forgiveness and everlasting waters
The refreshing spring on a hot day
We are never alone, He is always there
Through the rain, snow and sunny days
The One who reigns from above
He is worthy, glory to the Lamb !
Just One More Hug
I know that you have to go
I wish that we could stop the clock
Just give me one more hug
Let this one last a lot longer
I don’t want you to go
I know that I will miss you greatly !
I’m losing more than a friend
Maybe someday, some way
We can find a way to fix all of this
I pray that we can, and it won’t be long
I don’t know how I can go on
Without you my love
Hug me and don’t let go this time
Let us mold into one
Our love is stronger than this
Just one more hug, please one more !
Starting Over
Beginning anew is a challenge
Erasing the blackboard
Starting over from scratch
Building from the ground up
Starting out like we did once before
Together we can do this, you know ?
We have all of that stuff behind us
Now it is time to lay out the plans
It has been a long rocky road
But now we can begin starting over
We lost a game, but there are others
Others that we can win and move on
This is exciting, in a way you agree
Thank God we can do this, and do it now
Starting over, laying brick, one by one
And take a trip to the lake this summer
The Final Curtain
As I take the place behind the notepad
No one has the idea that this will be the end
Even the one holds the key to the operation
This will be the last stroke of the pen
It has been decades that has got me to this point
Now it is time to finally close the book
Close up the shop, retreat back to my home
My body is getting tired, my mind is slow
Chorus : O Lord, is this how it is going to end ?
Must it end this way ?!
Is there some other way?
O Lord please let this not be the end !
So this might as well be my grand finale
Honestly, I want to go out with a bang
The lights are shining, and all is fine
Everything is working out perfectly
Just minute
s away from the closing line
This will be a great moment of my life
The racing butterflies of the sea fly away
And now …it is time to bow
Chorus : O Lord, is this how it is going to end ?
Must it end this way ?!
Is there some other way?
O Lord please let this not be the end !
The Pencil Sticks
There is a place down by the bend
The road is somewhat tricky to find
He says that he lives just past that place
It is a renowned county landmark, you know
The road isn’t hard to find if you pay attention
Be careful when you drive past Chief Lane
If you must go out that way, don’t make the mistake
By going the opposite direction, that would be wrong
Chorus : Head toward the Pencil Sticks
It is the talk of the town all week
You just have to experience the trip
Take your spouse there just before sundown
On a nice midday drive when you have time
Take your spouse on a cruise under the thunder clouds
Before you go out to eat in the early evening
You may not want to go alone though
Chorus : Head toward the Pencil Sticks
It is the talk of the town all week
You just have to experience the trip
Take your spouse there just before sundown
Fix The Bunny’s Lunch
Went to the park around three
Threw some bread to the ducks
Most of them had already eaten
We watched them play in the pond
It was a nice spring day
When the birds were singing
Seventy six degrees under blue skies
What a way to relax under a tree !
Chorus : Whether it is Sunday night
Or Tuesday afternoon
I’ve just got to remember
To fix the bunny’s lunch
Fix the bunny’s lunch
I saw a squirrel looking around
A mallard duck led the pack
A dozen ducks were in military formation
And the little wrens ate up the scraps
A painter sketches a willow tree
Several fishermen cast out their lines
Families stroll eastward and then..
Relive what we had just did
Chorus: Whether it is Sunday night
Or Tuesday afternoon
I’ve just got to remember
To fix the bunny’s lunch
Fix the bunny’s lunch
