“She'll be home as soon as she can Kathy. I know she loves you very much,” Chris said.
“What about me daddy? Does mommy love me very much too?” Nicole asked.
“Yes Nicole, mommy loves you very much too,” Chris said.
I stood there in the doorway listening as Chris told our daughters I loved them very much. Did I love them enough though? Those two little vampires meant so much to me, even before I married their father they accepted me as their mother. How could Irene have left like she had? No she didn't have magic and Chris wouldn't invite her into the blood magic of the vampires. Trying to teach her to use witchcraft would have been a waste as well since I had never met anyone so ungifted in magic as Irene.
I found it so intriguing how even from my own family I could hide undetected until a time of my choosing. I knew they loved me, they had proven it time and again, but it did help hearing them say it.
I walked into the room and both my daughters gasped jumping up to give me a hug letting me know just how much they cared.
Everything in the dream changed and I was much older though I didn't look it. I had to be in my late fifties at least, but I still looked early to mid twenties. It was Halloween and the club was packed with friends and family. Kathy my oldest sister was standing there talking to me her daughters full grown and extraordinary witches in their own right.
“You look great Kathy,” I said trying to not show how much she seemed to have aged.
“Please don't lie to me Sam. I know I look old. It doesn't really bother me that much except I feel old most days too,” she replied.
“You're only as old as you let yourself be, didn't anyone ever tell you that,” I said.
“Yes, of course someone has. You, every time we talk. Sam I'm not a vampire who gains life from the blood of others. I know you don't take anything not offered, and I don't blame you for accepting the offers you get,” she said.
“If I accepted every offer I receive I'd be fat. I could help you feel young again, it isn't that big of a deal and since the world knows who I am the elemental and blood magic are available to any who wear the White Rose, something you've done for more years than either of us care to think about,” I said,
“I'm not like you Sam. Mom isn't either and from what I heard she doesn't have many more years left,” Kathy said.
Mom the woman who understood me when no one else would. The person who I was most afraid of as a child. Afraid of? No, that wasn't quite right, I wasn't afraid of mom, at least not physically, the fear was more of having her disappointed in me. I wanted mom to always be proud of me.
“You two wouldn't be talking about me would you?” Mom asked coming up to join our conversation.
