Read The Inn Page 3

was forcefully pulled back and thrown on the bed. The gargoyle hovered over my head looking at me in spite. I was so scared I could barely move a muscle. Boogeyman climbed onto the bed next tome and said, “If you think am going to let you escape its useless. I am going to send you into another realm and believe me when I say it might take an eternity to get yourself out of there!”

He was serious and breathing heavily in anger. He was about to raise his hands and clap when there was a loud knock on the door. I had never been so relieved at a door knock all my life! Filled with new strength, I kicked the creature off me making him lose his balance and jumped to the door. I unlocked the door before the gargoyle could stand in the way and screamed as loud as I could. The door opened and my dad came through it looking at me with a weird expression. I ran up to him and hugged him tight.

“What is wrong Jason??”, asked my father sounding confused. “The boogeyman…” I stopped halfway when I turned o find the room empty.

There was nobody in the room except for the gargoyle that now lay lifeless next to my leg. I looked up at my dad aghast, “But dad….there was a boogeyman and this gargoyle that was helping him. They teleported me to a jungle where o was chased by a bison…”

“Enough! Jason! You were dreaming, a bad dream. Now get to bed!”, said my dad and turned around. I pulled his hand and told him about the gargoyle opening and closing its wings. I realized he wasn’t buying a single word coming out of my mouth. I begged him let me stay in their room. Looking at my sorry condition, dad agreed to let me sleep in their room.

I took one last at the lifeless gargoyle before picking up my bag and run behind my dad. “The reason I came to you was to ask if you had the house keys in your bag. It was strange that I got a call from home. Do you think our house is burgled?”, asked my dad.

“Yeah dad, I very much have them in my bag”, I said rummaging the front pocket of my bag and holding out the key.

“I’ll call neighbor bill first thing in the morning”, said dad. Once in their room which looked quite similar to my own, I was asked to take the couch which I was more than happy to.

I looked out the window expecting boogeyman to show up or his ugly pet to fly in. I closed my eyes even if I wasn’t going to fall asleep and lay still until next morning.

The strangest thing in all of this was that we didn’t find anybody (not even the tawny old man) at the counter next morning. Even stranger was that there was nobody else staying in the inn apart from the three of us. The innkeeper was lying last night when he said there were only two empty rooms! My mom was shocked beyond any say and dad didn’t say a word other than order us to get into the car. Cherry on the cake was when the car started like nothing was ever wrong with it! I took one last long at the inn before looking at the road ahead. I could have sworn I saw a pair of ruby dots shine from the window!
