Splash! Now, I know that it sounds like a water park, but it isn’t, it’s practically the opposite. Slippery, slimy, and most of all dirty! And if you don’t like tight spaces it’s definitely not your place. And it just didn’t pop up there. It wasn’t just one person who built it. It was a two man team that built it, and a few other people that helped a little.

It was me and my older friend Peter. We were board to death inside so we headed outside and tried a few things out there but nothing seemed fun. Then we headed to the backyard to look for something to do. Then we dug a pit about 3ft deep and 4ft wide but, it wasn’t big enough or so my brother thought. So we made it a little bit deeper so it was about 4ft deep.

Then we covered it up with leaves and sticks. We kept on testing it but the sticks were to strong for a 10 year old to crack it. So eventually we got sticks and cut them straight down the middle. Once they were good enough we started testing again and kept falling through. Just like we wanted to. We had successfully made a trap hole. Now anyone who came into our backyard and walked on it would fall down in a 6ft deep hole.

My older friend Peter had a brother, a younger brother, and he wasn’t the smartest kid in the world. His name was Marcus. After we covered it up he kept falling in it. So everyone thought we did a good job except for me. I wanted us to make it deeper. The only reason I wanted it to be deeper is because I knew we could make it deeper. That’s when we really started digging.

My brother and I started to work on it but he got tired and gave up. So I asked Peter to help, so he did. When we had gotten about 8 inches deeper my sister came out, she tried to dig and she tried over and over but she only got us about 2 inches deeper. Then Peter took over. He worked for hours, until he finally hit water. My brother hopped in the pit. He was surprised on how deep it was because he didn't do a lot at all. He told me that I had to try it out because it was cool. So he came out and I jumped in, but nothing good came out of that at all. The dirt fell through and I was unconscious.

I opened my eyes and looked around at the scary dark cave. I screamed and someone replied. It was Peter. He got a rope and through it down. They pulled my up and everything was fine. For now.

Now that I was out of the pit we tried to forget about it. We started to play some basketball when we heard a loud scream. It was Marcos. He was trying to be funny and was faking a fall into the pit. When we got to the massive hole the scream had stopped. We called out for Marcos but there was no answer. We thought about what we were going to do for about 1 minute. Then we heard another scream, only this time is was in words. "Help there is something down here!" Then Peter out of nowhere jumped into the pit. I jumped in after him. I didn't even think about it, it was a reflex. I was about one inch from landing on Peter. It was dark and scary. We kept on hearing rustling in the distance. I screamed, "Marcos where ar…..", as Peter covered my mouth with his hand. We just stood there looking around for a while. Then we heard the rustling again. Suddenly it started to get louder and louder. Then I was tacked by a strange and random figure. It hurt a lot as I slammed against the ground. I could still see Peter but he was fighting somebody. All of a sudden someone grabbed me by the arm and started dragging me across the floor. I finally got myself turned around so I was facing the man. I kicked his legs as hard as I could and he fell down. When I got to my feet he was still lying on the ground. When he got on all fours I sunk my foot into his stomach. I found a rock and slammed it against his head. Then he fell unconscious

The figure lay still on the ground. I started to look closer. Now my eyes were used to the darkness. It was a man. I could here grunts farther away now. I ran to the sounds to find Peter fighting four men by himself. Without thinking about it I jumped into the fight. We fought for at least thirty minutes before we got the last one down. We were super tiered and couldn't even walk. We were sore too. We sat down next to each other and talked about what to do next. When we had caught our breath we went over to the unconscious men lying on the floor they had paint all over there faces, clothes made from animal skin, and knives attached to their belts. Then we started our plan. We knew the people would wake up soon so we got two of them and dressed in there clothes. We had to get rid of those though. After we got rid of the bodies we came to the others and acted like we were unconscious. When the others woke up they shook us and we got up. They started talking gibberish. We just stood there looking at them. Then they gave us a motion to fallow they started running and we fallowed. They were as fast as lightning but we barley kept up with them. All of a sudden I could see a light. We came to the surface. There were trees everywhere. We were in a forest. It was late and they had a giant fire going in the distance. We looked around for a little bit. Then I was shocked and grabbed Peter. It was Marcus; he was tied to a tree with two savages pointing spears at him.

By the time Peter saw Marcos we started to freak out. We didn't know what to do. There were at least 200 people there. We started to walk closer to Marcos but I noticed and older one of the savages looking at us. He stood up and started walking toughed us. Peter said to walk faster but when we did he ran after us. Eventually he caught up with us. Peter and I just stood there looking at the fire like everyone else was. Then I heard an old croaky voice say, "Hello there young fellow." In shock I turned to him. I remembered the others talk in some weird language but this man spoke English. "Why are you two outsiders here? You really shouldn't." he said nicely. "Out of nowhere I blurted out our fiend Marcus. Are they going to kill him?" Then the unexpected happened. The old man was seeing if we were one of them. He yelled at the top of his lungs, "INTRUDERS!!" Peter and I took off in Marcus' direction. Nobody was chasing us, yet. Then the whole tribe was looking at us. The two men guarding Marcus took there spears and pointed them at us. Peter let out a loud scream that scared the two men. That gave me a split second to get through and get Marcus but I would only have enough time to get to him. So when the guards turned around to me Peter grabbed one of their spears and jabbed both of them. Then tossed me a spear and I cut the ropes that Marcus was in. Now it was Marcus, Peter, two spears, and me versus the rest of the tribe.

The only thing we could do was run and that is exactly what we did. We ran as fast as we could but they I remembered something from when we were fallowing the others. They could run faster that us. I yelled at Peter and Marcus to hide before they got to us. Me and Peter both jumped up into a tree and climbed as far up as we could at the speed of light. Then I saw peter disappear going back down the tree. I looked down and saw Marcus trying to climb but he was failing. Peter got halfway down and jumped. I thought he was going to break a lag he was so high up but when he reached the ground he didn’t seem to care about his jump. He grabbed Marcus and through him up line he was a pinecone. Marcus finally got the hang of it and climbed pretty fast but peter still beat him. We were silent when the tribe of savages reached the point of the tree trunk. There was what looked like millions passing us by, each one with a spear in their hands, even the women. One of them, about a teenager, randomly screamed and through his spear at the tree we were in. we started to get worried but it turns out that he had been smoking marijuana in the main tribe’s tent. A man yelled and made a signal and they started to head back to their camp. When there were only about ten left in the woods Marcus slipped making a snapping noise but grabbed onto another branch. We thought we were fine until that because a boy about the age of Peter looked up at us and we could tell he saw us.

Now that the boy saw us I started to head down the tree but before I got far Peter grabbed me on the arm. I whispered, “Peter he sees us we need to go, now!” Then I noticed something. The boy was just standing there looking at us. He looked around and then made a hand gesture to come down. I didn't trust him but when I was about to look up to Peter to ask him if he trusted
him he zoomed right down past me. When we got to the bottom Peter and the boy started to talk like old friends. The Peter told us, "Hey guys, this is the way out. Come on!" The boy waved to us as we took off in that direction. Shortly after that we arrived at a large road. Soon, a police came up and asked us what we were doing and then he thought we were on drugs so he took us to our house and tested us for alcohol and drugs. Once he saw we were clean we went inside and snuck upstairs to go to sleep but then our parents came out of their rooms. They were really mad at us. After the yelling we went to sleep very easily because we had such a long day. The next day we filled the pit back up and we never wanted to go back. I also found out that the boy who helped us was Peter's old friend that went missing two years ago.

  The End!

Delaney Merril – Cassie and Sydney

  Chapter 1

Cassie Edwards was a girl who had always been in her sister’s spotlight. Cassie’s sister Sydney just seemed to be better at everything except one thing. That thing was soccer. Cassie had started playing soccer for the local high school in 7th grade. She now attends there and is in 10th grade there. Soccer was Cassie’s way out. It was the only thing she had alone until, one day.

One hot summer day in July, Cassie was leaving for soccer tryouts. Upon, arriving at the field she saw her sister Sydney. Cassie wondered why Sydney was there. She went up to Sydney and said what are you doing here? Her sister replied trying out for the soccer team. Cassie was shocked! Sydney used to play soccer but had never really shown any real interest in the sport. Sydney was a tennis player. She had played tennis since she was four. When, Cassie played soccer the first time she knew it was her thing, the same with Sydney and tennis. Sydney was trying out for center midfield and Cassie was a forward. Tryouts were a week long. Thirty two girls were trying out for the varsity team. The coach said we can only take 18 girls. Tryouts begin now.

The first day of tryouts the girls did fitness training on the big, grassy hill. They ran sprints up and down the hill for an hour. After that they ran a three mile fitness trail. The Coach talked to the girls and said that tomorrow they would do skills. Cassie and Sydney were exhausted. They both needed a good night’s sleep. They next morning everyone showed up ready to work. They all knew skills were an important aspect in the game of soccer. The girls trying out ran through tons of drills. They covered dribbling, shooting, and heading just to name a few. The Coach announced the rest of the week they would be doing scrimmages. The girls were thrilled. The last two days had been grueling and tough in the hot July sun. The scrimmages went well for Cassie and Sydney. Cassie was getting over the fact that her sister may make the team too.

Sydney was going out for tennis team again. Cassie decided to try out too. The girls both were mainly singles players but also made a great doubles pair. Tennis team tryouts were not nearly as tough as soccer tryouts. Only six girls would get cut. They practiced serving, volleying, and much more. Then, the team worked on footwork. Cassie and Sydney were really good at this part. Sydney was obviously the better tennis player but Cassie had great potential. Both girls were pretty confident that they would make tennis team for this school year.

The coaches for both teams were going to post results the first week of school. Cassie and Sydney were very anxious. They wanted to make the teams very badly. The first day of school was coming closer. Cassie was going into eleventh grade while Sydney was going to be a senior grade. The first day of school is tomorrow.

  Chapter 2

When, Cassie and Sydney entered the school building on the first day, they saw a group of kids gathered around the different sports tryout results. There were football, basketball, soccer, tennis and lots of other sports results posted. Cassie hurried to go look at the soccer results. She quickly scanned the list, until, she reached Edwards. After Edwards, it read Cassie and Sydney’s names. Sydney was looking at the tennis results. She excitedly announced that both of their names were on the list. Cassie said we’re both on the soccer team too. The sisters were both thrilled with the results. All around them though, they were kids crying about not making cuts and friends comforting them.

During third period Cassie couldn’t stop thinking about Sydney making the soccer team. She was frustrated about her sister making the team. She couldn’t bear Sydney taking over the only thing that was hers. She wondered why Sydney had tried out. Cassie and Sydney had been getting along lately though, thankfully. Usually they were constantly fighting with each other.

The next day they had there first tennis practice with Coach Catherine Wallis. Catherine was a former professional tennis player on the WTA tour. She talked to them about their tryouts and how she had picked each player for a special reason. Catherine said that she had talked to the kids who hadn’t made it and told them the cuts were very hard to do. She explained how the team was going to work. Her goals for the team were fairly simple, work hard and always do your best. They warmed up and then practiced for two hours. Soccer practice was pretty much the same. The coach introduced herself as Caroline Campbell, former U. S. Women’s National Team player.

A week later the team was out on the field waiting for soccer practice to begin. Twenty minutes after practice was supposed to start their Coach Caroline, still had not showed up at the field. The team began to practice on their without Coach Caroline. At the end of practice they still had not seen or heard from their coach. They left assuming something had come up and Caroline had gotten distracted. Little did they know about the truth of where there coach was?

  Chapter 3

Coach Caroline has been back for a few weeks now. The team is playing in league games now and hasn’t lost yet. Cassie and Sydney are the stars of the team. The whole school thinks that they are going to win a state championship.

This weekend they face their league rivals and the only thing standing in the way of them winning the league title. College scouts will be attending the game and offering scholarships to the top players on both teams. Coach Caroline has a secret though. One of the scouts is recruiting for the U. S. Women’s National Team. Caroline has arranged for most of the girls on her team to be offered college scholarships and be watched by national team scouts. This is why she missed practice. The team won the game 2-1. It was a very competitive game. Cassie and Sydney scored.

After, the game the scout for the national team approached Cassie and Sydney. He invited the girls to the next training camp in Florida. They discussed the idea with their parents who, eagerly agreed they should attend. At the end also Sydney being a high school senior was offered several college scholarships. She was thrilled but said she would have to think it over. The girls both had a great afternoon.

Tennis team season is just starting up the first match is today. Cassie and Sydney will be playing doubles together. The girls win easily. The only problem is they fought some during the match. Cassie was definitely still quite a bit worse than Sydney but she is rapidly improving. Sydney on the other hand was earning scholarship offers for tennis too. Sydney is very lucky because in college, tennis and soccer are different seasons. This allows her to play both and obey the rule of one sport per season.

  Chapter 4

Sydney is playing her last high school league game. It is homecoming and they are playing a very easy team. All the seniors will be honored in a special ceremony at halftime. The senior class is thrilled.

Kickoff, the game has begun. The girls score quickly, they are dominating the game. Sydney goes in for a tackle on the other team’s best player. She wins the ball but she doesn’t get up. Instead, Sydney starts crying and screaming in agonizing pain. Cassie runs to her sister and sees that she is holding her leg. The trainer comes running on to the field and the game stops. Cassie and Sydney’s father comes also rushes onto the field. The whole crowd is staring down at the injured girl, Sydney. A stretcher is brought on the field and takes Sydney off. The trainer is yet to check her out, the stretcher wa
s a precaution and the game needed to restart. Cassie cannot focus on her sister, she is on the field and play has resumed. Cassie scores a brilliant goal at the end of the first half. She has put them up 2-0.

Sydney is talking to the trainer. She is yet to move her injured leg. The trainer and the coach are afraid it might be broken. When, she made the tackle you could see her leg turn to the side. Sydney is being taken to the hospital to have x-rays on her leg. Her father carried her to the car because she can’t move her right leg. They arrive at the hospital and wait in a small room to see the doctor.

Meanwhile back at the field, the game is halfway through the second. Cassie and the team now lead 4-0. The came is very uncompetitive. Cassie has just come out of the game to find out Sydney is at the hospital. She is very worried about her sister. The final whistle blows and they leave with a comfortable win. Another girl on the team drives Cassie to the hospital. When she arrives they are waiting on the results of Sydney’s x-rays. Cassie tells her about the rest of the game. The doctor finally appears with the results.

  Chapter 5

Sydney and Cassie are both scared for the results of the x-rays. Especially, Sydney because this could hurt her soccer scholarship offers. The doctor says announces that Sydney’s leg is broken. She is heartbroken. Sydney’s leg is wrapped so it is stable until she gets her cast on. Cassie drives them both home from the hospital. Their parents have heard the news and are awaiting the girls’ arrival at home.

The biggest problem is what to tell the schools she was being recruited by. The hardest thing for Sydney was that she was going to miss playoffs and they were favored to win. Cassie had to continue preparing for the playoffs with the team. She was really excited for playoffs this weekend. Sydney is doing well and a month from getting her cast off.

The team easily won their first game 3 to 0 but missed Sydney’s strong presence in the midfield. The second was much more challenging. No one wanted to go home early in the playoffs. Luckily, they were able to slip the ball into the net for a 1to 0 win. Their next game was a week away. One, week later the team was starting their 3rd round playoff game against a very tough team. The game went to double overtime and was about to go to penalty kicks when, a girl on Cassie and Sydney’s team was fouled. Cassie stepped up to take the free kick with 1 minute left in the 2nd overtime. She hit the ball and it soared over the wall and curled into the top left corner. Cassie had won the game for her team and sent them to the quarterfinals. Sydney could be ready to play again if they make the finals. Her cast comes off in one week.
