Read The New Devil in Charge Page 18

I have been waiting for him all day and the moment he walks in the door I can’t stop staring at his penis and it begins to make him nervous. “Baby, are you planning to cut my dick off or something, cause you are making me really nervous staring at it like you are?”

“Oh no, I don’t want to do that at all. I only wanted to … you look tense Eli.”

“No, I’m good.” He says not understanding at all.

“No you look upset and tense, can I help you with that?”

“No I’m good, I just finished a round of golf. I got my best score ever today.”

“OH!” I yelled for some reason causing him to jump backwards. I take his hand calmly, “I mean that’s great. We should celebrate.”

“I guess, I can go change and take you out to dinner …”

“No, let’s stay in and … celebrate just the two of us.”

“Okay, what do you want to do Short Stuff?” I push him backwards into a chair and turn up the music that is already going and begin to dance for him. “What are you doing Cat? Did you hurt your leg or something?”

“No. I am dancing seductively for you.” I say to him.

“Oh.” He looks me over. “It’s nice, thank you.”

“Don’t say thank you, I worked hard to learn this dance for you.” He looks around the room seeming to search for the right thing to say back. “Eli?!”

“What Honey? I don’t understand what you are doing, this is so unusual for you.”

“I know, I am trying to seduce you and be sexy for you. I know it’s not something I am known to do, but I was trying to do something special for you.”

“Ahhh, that’s so sweet, but you don’t have to try to be sexy. Hell, walk in here with your military boots on and nothing else and I am seduced.” He gets up and hugs me, “You are all kinds of sexy Short Stuff without even trying. I appreciate the effort though, next time just sit in my lap naked and I will get your point much faster.”

I know he is trying to make me feel better but this was not my goal. I look up at him and smile as I unbutton his shirt, feeling over his muscular chest and down to the trail of hair leading to his awakening beast. Kissing his chest I quickly maneuver his pants undone and right off of him. Sliding down his body to my knees, I take hold of him and rub his shaft to a hardened perfection. It grows tight and seems to respond perfectly to my hands caressing it. Admiring its flawlessness, I lick his tip and look up, as he jaw remains open watching me. Opening my mouth I take him in and simply enjoy all that he has to offer me. Eli slowly sits down letting me continue with his eyes watching my every move. My new skills give me a new delight and Eli happiness like he has never known. He reaches down and rubs my back pulling my shirt off of me and finding a way to release my breasts too.

“That’s better.” He says with a heavy breath. I take the initiative and pull off my remaining clothes and let him enjoy the whole show. Eli can never sit still though he plays with my tits, my ass and then stops me to pull me up onto the sofa with him. “Come here let’s do something more … to celebrate.” I am confused at first but then he lies back forcing me to sit down on his face, with his erection standing proudly in front of me. Smiling wildly I take hold of it and run my tongue all down its shaft and back up again. I have control, and with that control I wiggle my pussy along his mouth enjoying the vibrations of his groans against my clit and up deep inside me. The better I feel the more I want of him in my mouth. I am not sure I can take much more when his cum floods into my mouth. I lean up and Eli only pauses briefly before becoming determined. He takes hold of my ass tight and slips his fingers inside playing, while his tongue reaches in to depths of my joy and forces out juices he has been waiting to taste. I collapse on his legs and slide off to the side of him unable to move. I open my eyes and see his beast wiggle itself in my direction. I glance up at his smile as he winks at me. “I think he likes you.” Laughing I climb my way up to his lips, kissing him and finding a more comfortable place within his arms.

Our sexcapades are wonderful, but the emotion and love that comes with them is what I live for. He is the reason I rush home and into his arms, and only in his arms do I feel safe.

The moment his arm is around me, I feel as if I am able to breathe again. Amery says I am not experienced enough to know what love is. I don’t know how that could be true when I have seen what love is so many times. I have seen Nick and Kayla and their undying love, neither seeming to have ever experienced such overwhelming power before they met each other. Even Amery needed no one else once he met Haile and seems to want no one else after her. So if the best loves are the last ones you’ll ever need, why, then, do I need to search for another when he is everything I have ever needed? The moment he looks at me and smiles, my whole world brightens, and my heart beats to a lively rhythm that only love could sing to. I love Elijah Stevens, now and forever.

“Hey Short Stuff, are you ready for this? We could always runaway to Vegas and let everyone know afterwards,” Eli says.

“No way! We are going to enjoy every second up until the moment I get to hear you say, ‘I do’. Then, you’re mine forever, Mr. Stevens.”

“Alright, but if I die here tonight, make sure Kamini doesn’t show up for me,” he says with a deep breath.

Sitting down with an elaborate feast in front of us, I know at least most everyone is aware of what this about. Thankfully, Eli doesn’t dive right in. He allows everyone to enjoy their food and some light but awkward conversation thanks to my brooding father.

I glare at Amery to help out until he finally rolls his eyes. “So Nick, how did you and Goober over there meet?” he asks, motioning towards Eli.

“We’ve known each other since we were kids. We grew up in the same neighborhood. Our fathers actually introduced us. I remember walking in and seeing this kid wearing a sweater vest and shorts and the whitest sneakers I had ever seen.”

“Oh, you did not have to tell them about the sweater vest, Nicky.” Eli shakes his head as Ryan laughs so hard he can’t hardly speak. “That was a gift from my grandmother. She was in town visiting, and well, you just don’t disappoint your nana.” Ryan continues to laugh. “Oh shut up! I remember you wearing some pretty horrible outfits. That one time you wanted to be a rapper was one of them. MC-Rylo.” Ryan sits back silent, staring daggers at Eli.

“Rylo?” Skylar asks, trying not to laugh. “Why Rylo?”

Eli starts laughing as Nick buries his head into his napkin, hiding his obvious laughter. “You both better just shut up. I’m warning you,” Ryan threatens.

“Nicky, you tell ‘em. He can’t kill you,” Eli suggests as Ryan mouths horrible things to him.

  “It’s because …”

  “Nick damn it!” Ryan yells.

“Rylo Rolos, like candy, a sweet treat for all the ladies to taste.” Nick bends over laughing as Eli smacks hands with him.

Ryan steams as we all laugh. “Laugh it up, but I got dirt to you know. Like the time you both nearly got arrested for dealing and the only way you got out of it was through an old lady’s laundry.”

Eli and Nick both sit straight up and eyeball him. “We said we would never speak of that again!” Eli shouts.

Ryan dances in his seat. “Oh but it is such a great story.”

“I want to know,” Kayla insists. “Please.”

“See, these two were out dealing, and someone called the cops on them. Their only escape was this old lady’s house. They couldn’t stay there forever, so one of these two idiots decided they would dress in this old lady’s clothes and wigs, steal this car sitting outside the house, and drive away, leaving the cops none the wiser. And all goes well except one of their tail lights were out and one of the cops went after them to pull them over for it.” Ryan begins laughing so hard he can’t speak as Eli sits back, shaking his head.

“What happened? Did you get pulled over?” Kayla asks.

“No, we kept driving, pretending we couldn’t hear the sirens,” Eli admits.

&n
bsp; “Eli sat humped over with his face pressed against the windshield driving about 15 miles an hour. I kept yelling at him to speed up, and he would say, ‘But no old lady speeds! Nicky, just sit over there and knit or something’. So we kept driving down the road with this cop’s lights and sirens going off next to us, and we never bothered to look his way. We came to a stop light, and the cop got out and started knocking on my window. I didn’t know what to do, so I sat there, holding my purse and hoping he would go away.”

  “Holding your purse?” Amery laughs.

“No, tell them the best part.” Ryan says, still laughing but Eli shakes his head. “Fine I’ll tell them. At the next stop light, the cop gets out and starts knocking on Eli’s window, and Eli …”

“I couldn’t take it anymore. This guy was going to follow us forever, so I got out of the car, hit him with my purse, and accused him of being an old lady rapist. I screamed for help while Nick jumped out and started running. I followed after him. The nearest place to hide out was this jackass’s place.”

“I opened the door, and I wish you could have seen them. Wigs all off to one side, old lady dresses with stuffed bras, one boob was flat, and the three others were going into all kinds of wrong directions. They both still had these little purses with hard candies in them. The best part was, before I could say anything, Eli said …” Ryan stops, as even Nick laughs, “He said, ‘Hey Ry, we were thinking bingo tonight, you want to come?’”

“Actually, the best part was when we stopped running and Eli asked me to hold his boob while he pulled up his stockings.” Nick laughs. “I yelled at him, ‘I am not holding your stupid boob, put it in your purse’. Oddest thing I have ever said in my life.”

Eli turns to me. “Lies, Baby, all lies. I swear. Invite people to a nice dinner and this is what happens. I am not talking to any of you ever again.” He finally smiles and laughs, taking my hand as the group talks about other moments shared between among us. Even Amery lightens up and looks as if he is having a good time.

“I probably shouldn’t tell this, but since everyone else has been sharing humiliating stories, I will humble myself too. When I was a teenager, my father got sick, and I had to take charge at the devil’s court. I had been with my father many times, so I knew how it worked, but for some reason, I was nervous sitting there with all these intimidating men waiting on me to speak. I am not sure why, but I tried to deepen my voice and sound bigger than I was, only it didn’t work out so well. I stood up and began to speak very robust, ‘My lords …’ and then I squeaked out the rest as puberty hit me right at that moment. I got so upset and so nervous I threw up in front of them all. We had to hold up court until someone could get me something to write my direction down rather than speak another word. It was horrible, the whispering and hidden laughter. I swore I would never go back after that.”

“Ah poor squeaky,” Eli laughs, finally sharing an acceptable smile with my old friend.

“Oh shut up, grandma,” Amery fires back.

The night is going so well that I feel amazing and have to squeeze Eli’s hand, feeling this is the best moment to share our news.

“Are you sure?” he confirms. I nod, and he stands, helping me up and putting his arm around me. “Thank you everyone for coming tonight. We are very appreciative to have such great friends to share our lives with.” Eli takes in a deep breath. “And we would like to share some news with you. Cat and I are very excited to announce that I proposed to her, and she accepted. We’re getting married. Hell, I’m getting married!”

Everyone congratulates us joyfully, except for one. My father begins to turn a vivid scarlet red before slamming his fists on the table. “Absolutely not! I will not have my daughter waste her life on someone so loathsome and useless.”

“Father, this is not the time,” I say, trying to urge him to calm down.

“You bring me here and tell me such wretched news in front of all these people in hopes that I will simply be agreeable and pleasant. I refuse to allow it, Catriona. Your life is much too valuable. In fact, I am already orchestrating new offers with several other lords who are interested in taking you in as their bride or as their future heir’s bride. You could be the wife of a lord, not a wife of a scoundrel.”

“Her life is only valuable to you when it benefits you. All you care about is power. You don’t care about her, never have. You’re nothing but a disgrace as a father,” Eli says, stepping in front of me, daring my father to kill him.

“I’m a disgrace? You, the son of a poor man and a drug addict whore? He said his mother disappeared. She didn’t disappear. His father kicked her out because she was an addict who was screwing everyone in the neighborhood for drug money. She died with a needle in her arm and a bum inside of her. Your dear mother found drugs and living on the street more appealing than her own son. What does that say about you?” My father holds his head up, waiting for Eli to fire back, but I know he won’t. Eli has been looking for his mother ever since his father died. He had no idea what happened to her. As a gift to him, I searched for her using the lords’ means for searching for people and found her. I told him she had cancer and didn’t want him to see her die so she left to spare him and his father that pain. I knew that it would be almost impossible for him to find out the truth, especially if he knew the search for her would be useless. He was upset but finally at peace. I didn’t tell anyone what I had found but my father, since I needed his permission to search the records under his name.

Eli looks as though his heart was ripped out of his chest and smashed in front of his eyes. “Eli …” I take hold of his arm, but he jerks it away from me.

“You lied to me,” he says without looking my way.

“I wanted to protect you from the truth. I wanted to make you feel better about your mother. I lied because I love you, and I didn’t want you to get hurt.”

“She lied because she was too embarrassed for you,” my father huffs.

“Shut up! And get out, and don’t ever come back here. You will never be welcome in my house again.” Eli snaps.

“Catriona, if you don’t come back with me right now, you will never be allowed home again.”

“Good.” My father roars towards us, but when Nick stands along with Ryan in front of us, he backs off, fighting every instinct he has to kill Eli. Fine. Protect them. I have another daughter. I don’t need you. Amery, let’s go.”

Amery shakes his head. “No, I’m having a good time here, and I’m going to stay. You were the only one told to leave, and I suggest you do it quickly before you’re escorted out harshly.” Shocked, my father storms out alone.

Silence. My usually jubilant love is lost, broken, and I don’t know how to help him. Everyone slowly makes their silent exits except for Nick and Kayla. I’m not sure why, but he stayed to sit outside with Eli for hours. They don’t seem to say anything to each other. Lily is the only one to go out and bravely climb her way on Eli, trying to comfort him.

“How are you doing?” Kayla asks.

“I want to help him, but I don’t know how. I told him what I did so he would stop searching for her. I didn’t want him to know such a horrible thing.”

“Give him time. He will come back to you. Let him grieve for her in his own time.”

  “He hates me.”

“No, that’s not true. You make him happier than I have ever seen him. Let me tell you, as much heartache as I cause Eli, I love him dearly. He may not be related, but he will always be considered family. I don’t trust many people, especially with my children, but I trust that man with each of their lives. You couldn’t do any better than him. Go out there. Don’t say a word, just be there. That’s all he needs from you right now is to be there with him.”

With her reassurance, I grab a blanket and walk outside, nodding towards Nick before sliding into the lounge chair Eli is resting in. I cover us both up and rest my head on his chest. I feel unsure of myself until he puts his arm around me and pulls me in closer.

  The n
ext morning, I wake up, and Eli is gone, I race through the house to search for him, but Kayla stops me with a cup of coffee. “Good morning.”

  “Where is Eli?”

“He and Nick had some things to do this morning. They’ll be back soon. For now, eat some breakfast and then we can get you ready to go.”

  “Go? Go where?”

“We are all going on a trip, to a special place for you to get married.” She smiles wide.

“What?! Really?” I giggle with excitement.

“Yeah, you said you wanted a beach getaway wedding, so Nick’s and my gift to you guys is the perfect beach wedding at the spur of the moment. You’re lucky Nick owns his own plane.” I jump, screaming with excitement, and hug her. “Eli said you already have a dress?”

“Yes, when we moved here, Eli took me out to dinner and I saw it in a window across the street from the restaurant. I couldn’t get it out of my mind. The whole display window was perfectly romantic, light and sweet. I don’t even need to wear heels,” I laugh as she does.

“Perfect. I hope you don’t mind that we take you and then leave soon after the ceremony. We left the kids with Ryan, and I am not sure he and Skylar are quite able to handle all three for very long.”

  “Perfectly fine.”

“You know, as much as we have to come out this way, I am thinking we are going to need to get a house here.”

“I would like that, someone closer to talk to about … well, you know,” I say with a deep sigh.

“Yeah, I do. It will be nice to have a sister again,” she says, and I look up at her surprised. “Well, Eli is basically a brother, so when you get married, that would make you a sister.”
