Abelard was a hero at VBI and would be handsomely rewarded with bonus’ and promotions. His new position would lead him to even greater feats in the never ending wars to dominate the corporate landscape. He felt a sense of accomplishment well beyond what anyone may have imagined. Not because he was able to succeed with such improbable ease. After all, he had been groomed for the field ever since his imagined childhood, from where both mercy and quarter were banned. There was nothing particularly surprising that Abelard should be, at the very least, a formidable match for all other contenders. The real triumph had been how completely he had been able to adapt to what had been such a fearful new world only four short years ago.
