Lieutenant Commander Nick Marsden and Major Bill Clayton were having a quick conference in Claytons’ office, to assess progress so far and plan future actions.
Captain Brian Foley stuck his head round the door.
“Sorry to interrupt, “he said. “News, just in.”
“I thought you’d gone to Bosnia,” joked Marsden.
“Not yet,” replied Foley. “You’re not getting rid of me that soon.”
“So what’s the news?” asked Clayton.
“It’s Andy Murphy, McFosters’ Chief of Staff,” replied the Captain.
“What about him?” asked the Major.
“Well, I suppose we shouldn’t laugh,” replied Foley, “but they seem to have found his body in a spare drawer in the mortuary at the Royal Victoria Hospital!”
“What an extraordinary thing,” said Marsden, with a grin. “Who on earth could have put him in there, I wonder?”
Foley and Clayton looked at him. They would miss him when he went back to Hereford.
