Anne grinned back. “I guess that makes us even then, huh?”
He smiled wider. “I guess so.” He glanced around. “Maybe we should get out of here, before the police and fire department show up and starts asking difficult questions.” He indicated the smoldering wreckage of the boxes and still smoking alley walls.
He yawned loudly suddenly and then laughed a bit, a look of mild embarrassment on his face. “Wow, looks like I could use some coffee.”
Anne turned and picked up her backpack where it had fallen. Turning back to him, she put her arm around his and headed them back out towards the old school.
“Come on,” she told him, “I know a place.”
