Rainy Days
(26th December, 2003)
Times of difficulties
The year is withering
Visions and aspirations
Has scatter
The little birds and crows
Dancing to the melodious rhythm of life
Trees and flowers smile to praise their creator
But all I hear in my ears
It’s not time to brood over things that are past
I lifted up my eyes
My mind wandering
My heart wondering
If truly there is happiness on this planet
Then why should man be caught up in sorrows net
And think that, all is set
So never again shall man get
Happiness, as he bet
In these rainy days
In these times of distress
The activities of the animals
Depicted that there is hope
Since there is a long rope
In man’s life which help him to cope
With the difficulties that the scope
Of life brings
Like a toddler who’s learning to walk
I lifted up my eyes
And saw the smiling sun
Showing light beyond the rain
Truly, my rainy days were over.
Alone In My Room
(23rd March, 2004)
Silence as it can be
Bounded by the four walls
Surrounded by non-living things
All by myself
Creating pictures in my mind
Eyes going round
Looking for someone to talk to
But alone in my room I was
Everyone loves a silent hour
Trying to recollect the errors of the past
The cool breezes of the coast
Refreshing the occupied mind of the mortal man
Ready for any inconveniences
Troubled by the noise of my own breath
Doors banging
Windows slapping itself
Rushed to look for the fellow
But, alone I was in my room
So can you ever measure
The quality of one’s treasure
When he is confined to his room
Talking all to himself
Television, radio and video
Has become his friends
In the silent stillness of the mind
Looking up to the white ceiling
Energized by the melodious songs of the birds
All could only happen
When I am alone in my room
Next Level
(5th October, 2004)
Changes in life are inevitable
For he who rejects change
Is truly an architect of decay
The only human institution that rejects change
Is the cemetery
The desire to change oneself
Breeds envy and jealousy among friends
If you love me because I love you
That is a mere trade
Life is strictly an individual affair
The decisions you make today
Will definitely determine your success tomorrow
So look before you leap
Just be patient in life
For with determination, hard work and prayers
You can be what you want to be in future
Though it tarries, wait for it
For it will come to pass
Your ability to adapt yourself to the changes of time
Determines how successful you can be
For me, I know that:
“It is only the man who sits under the tree
that knows the strength of the wind”
Do not compare yourself to somebody
Because, as you think, gossip and fabricate stories
about me, be careful
Because, before you’ll realise
I will be in the next level
Yes – next level in life.
A Lover’s Call
(15th May 2010)
Come, the princess of Wales
The bright morning star
You shine like a pure diamond
Precious mineral of our dear land
Your face is as clear as crystal
The thought of your beauty
Put many on duty
Hawa, the ancient goddess
Taken out from the rib of man
A perfect complement to Adam
Serwaa Akoto, the beauty of a pure African lady
An epitome of black beauty
Lily in the valley
With a priceless fragrance
Smelling from Tumu gab to Cape Three Points
Of what value was Adam
When your icy hands adrift away
You turn the mortal to immortal
With your charming smile
A real princess from Asanteman
Many will come near and far
To pay homage to your beauty
You are beautiful
That’s an understatement
You are a true goddess
A call to you
I remain your servant with manners
To give you your due
Indeed, a lover’s call
Diamond amidst Stones
(10th September, 2011)
Shinning at the feet of the hill
The ancient mountain
Determined by the power of a will
Life’s fountain
Searching for the precious mineral
The black stone general
Eyes running round
Like Usain Bolt in a 100 metre race
Confused by the sound
As I try to keep the pace
I searched, searched and searched
Like an oasis in the desert to fetch
My precious diamond amidst pure stones
I wish I had her number; I would have called her phones
Do not be detracted by the stones, I told myself
Keep your eyes on the diamond, she knows herself
No matter how hard the stones try
They cannot over-shadow the cry
Of the precious diamond
Love So Bright
(14th October, 2011)
It was love at first sight
Could not sleep throughout the night
Sitting down with my eyes glued on the lights
Oh! How I wish I could catch a flight
Just to be where she is, so not to get off her sight
For the first time, I witnessed the might
Of true love which is tight
No more fight
Because, her love is so bright
To enable me forget my plight
As a poor boy without a right
Pretenders
(25th December, 2011)
Snakes are deadly
Some friends are worldly
Snakes are poisonous
Pretenders ar
e conscious
of what they do
Even though they look cool
Smile with you
But within they ask who
In your presence
They seem to wish you well
In your absence
They wish you hell
Be wise so to smell
their fragrance of betrayal
Do not be overwhelmed
With their act of fighting for your survival
They look innocent like a sheep
But are fatal when you sleep
The seed of life
The pulse of man
Broken by their utterances
while being assured by their glances
Behind that smiled face
Lies a great betrayal if you trace
the source of their race
Do not be overtaken by their looks
Because they are crooks
You need to be alert
If you want to avert
the poisonous nature of the snake
Avoid a handshake
And continue to be upright
as bright as the sunlight
since they seek your downfall
In your rainy days
Love Lost
(25th December, 2011)
Walking at the sea shore
in Oguaa, the ancient capital of the Gold Coast
feeling the smooth breeze
and the waves thereof
In the midst of the sand
a sea fish struggling to survive
Gasping for air
and shaking its tail
Grabbed by a fisherman
shouting like he’s got a dish
save its life, the children cried
promised the same, they thought he lied
touched by their cry, he loved the fish
kept the fish in a pond
like they had a bond
fed it, cared for it
Throughout the rainy season
the fish received life just for a simple reason
in the dry season
it was kept alive for the same reason
Love beyond boundaries
Thinking about all its memories
The happiest times were moments spent with the fish
Many thought he was a fool
They never knew he felt so cool
The loneliness in his heart
were taken away
each moment he sat by the pond
The fish bred and multiplied
Their number increased as if they were to be supplied
He protected them with his life
Sometimes castigated even by the wife
and threatened with a knife
by thieves who wanted to steal
the fishes at night
Funny how a life could be laid down
For things which are valued
Many realised the love that has been shown
ready to do same
if they had their own
There rise envy
with jealousy as its best friend
when the happiness of one
is about to be fulfilled
In the middle of the night
a storm rose with its might
destroying everything in its way
in the month called may
through the storm, the man run
without a form, many frown
with cries and shouts
in a deep voice, like the sounds of thunder
save my fishes, save my fishes - he cried
none with such wishes
they tried
The brave storm swept the fishes away
with tears flowing like a stream
he thought they will come his way
sitting closer to a steam
to keep himself warm
while he ponder on the harm
the cruel storm has caused
his dreams scattered and the love lost
was not bothered by the cost
rather the source of happiness that was lost
Truly, a love lost.
Karma
(14th December, 2011)
They say it is the law of nature
Meant for every creature
No matter your stature
It might hit you in the future
Some call it the result of good gesture
Or bad and evil mixture
Whatever it is, it’s called karma
Weren’t you told by your mama
That you reap what you sow
Don’t shout OH!
For you know it pays to be good
An evil seed produces an evil plant
Whatever you do
Wherever you find yourself
Karma will find you
Thoughts in Mind
(14th February, 2012)
Thoughts in mind, it comes in the night
Thoughts in mind, I pick my pen to write
Thoughts in mind, sometimes it feels so right
Thoughts in mind, it’s not by might
Thoughts in mind, it is the key
Thoughts in mind, you are what you think
Thoughts in mind, it reflects what you see
Thoughts in mind, it comes like a blink
Thoughts in mind, that’s where it all starts
Thoughts in mind, you can recollect the facts
Thoughts in mind, it comes in parts
Thoughts in mind, it’s displayed as acts
Thoughts in mind, some die with it
Thoughts in mind, some deal with it
Thoughts in mind, the hidden treasure of man
Thoughts in mind, it makes and unmake you
Thoughts in my mind, I call them life experiences
Dorothy
The door that never became a reality
(26th December, 2011)
Friends come, Friends go
Some stay even though
they walk in without a goal
Some leave tears
Others bring fears
But a true friend is like the Kwahu Mountains
Flourishing your life with refreshing thoughts
They make you blossom
Like a tree planted by the riverside
Selflessness, faithfulness and truthfulness
are the traits of a true friend
They reduce your pain
Although they won’t gain
They watch your back
When the enemy attack
and also pack
goods to your abode when you lack
They stay without a reason
No matter the season
in gloom or bliss
You will forever miss
their love and care
A true friend indeed – Dorothy
the door that never became a reality
Our Mother
Our heart is on fire
We miss you, our life wire
You gave us hope
when it was difficult to cope
You were our wife, sister and mother
When daddy seems not to bother
Even though he was our brother
You kept us cool
So we wouldn’t make a fool
Out of ourselves
“Abena Darkwaa, obaatan pa a odo ne mma”
You never discriminate
It was difficult to differentiate
Your biological children
From your adopted children
We remember how we use to play
Not forgotten each morning when we pray
In your sorrow state
You wished for our happiness
And chastised us for our naughtiness
You denied yourself a lot of things
Just to put us through school
I remember how you use to call me
Every Saturday morning
To talk to me till I stop yawning
/>
Our mother, the first love of our life
We would forever miss you in our life.
Love is not what You Feel
Love is not what you feel
Many think it’s not for real
Love is not what you feel
many has fell for this drill
even though there is thrill
in feeling true love which is rare
some paid the fare
while others walked out bare
so do not ever dare
to fall for her care
or probably his snare
because love is not what you feel
True Valentine
Love is strong
True love makes it real
Sometimes people get you wrong
When the love is very clear
You feel young experiencing a love so dear
We call it a true valentine
Looking at You
My creator my king
the originator of my being
my hope in the midst of storms seen
you lifted me when I was a teen
In times of distress
with the troubles of life giving me stress
I turned to the left
but did not felt
the peace that they claimed will melt
down my soul
and calm the trouble waters in my life
I turned to the right
as i rely on my might
thinking I can fight
my problems with sight
and personal might
but no matter how hard I try
I always realise I cannot do it all alone
but then I remember your promise
and turned to look at You
my Maker
Tears of the Sun
Tears from the sun
Peirce through His palm
Some saw it as fun
But he kept his calm
Jesus, my saviour died for my sins
And made me whole
My Bride
(4th October, 2013)
My bride
Your love is so wide
No wonder you are my pride
Would always drive you in my ride
While we sail through the tide
I will be by your side
And never go and hide
Because i’m proud of you, my bride
Wow! You speak of your bride with pride
My good man you have really tried
For some, after they have been hurt and cried
Cease to speak about their bride with pride
