  THE DAWGS OF WAR

A soldier is a warrior no matter where their feet stand or what they hold as a weapon. They are a combatant mainly send out by cowardly men without a brave hair on their nut sacks into situations that will probably twist any plans they might had going in, strip away any beliefs they have lived by, and rebuild themselves into something like time does a baby to the point of manhood.

The planet is called Catclog. It’s a primitive planet on the far edge of the Universe.

And yes the universe does have an edge.

Catclog is a planet located within a galaxy in which it shares a sun with no other planet and only three moons. The planet was only formed a few thousand years ago. There is very little vegetation on the planets land surfaces- only a couple large pink forests. For the most part it is covered half and half by volcanic changing continents and ice covered oceans.

The planet has been visited by only one intelligent reasoning race outside the native people of the planet. A Caspery exploration group came here once about two hundred years ago. They left letting their Councils know that the planet offered nothing military or mineral wise and thus should be keep as a secret as long as possible to keep the planet as it is.

The Catclog people themselves have not achieved space travel by choice of their own. They have no interest in visiting other worlds until they know everything about the planet they call home. They do not even have interest in exploring the skies through aviation.

Speaking of the skies of Catclog, they are blue with waves of green, orange, and purple. The planets night and day cycles are very close to that of Earth. All of the moons of Catclog can be seen during day or night. The moons are named Catcise, Catcers, and Catchill.

The moons of Catclog are named after the three Gods of the people of Catclog who represent all the phases of life: pre-life, life, and the afterlife.

The story of the Gods of Catclog goes as follows: Catcise, Catcers, and Catchill came into the world just as Catclog was being born. Gods in power all, brothers in life all, they found themselves in a situation without someone to love though which made the “in all” not much at all.

After many years of pleasuring themselves and many woodland animals against their wills the God brothers pleaded with the planet to send them a way of creating a race of people to honor the planet and their own Godliness.

One day on a hunting trip through the first pink forest Catcise was visited by a vision. The vision was of a female Catclogian who called herself Evclo. She told him to give his brothers a special mixture of roots during their meal tonight and then to take it himself and in time they would hear the cries of new born life.

Later after their night meal the three brothers intoxicated by the mixture laid with each other in nakedness and took of each other’s seed. One month later within a hollowed out tree a baby’s cries was heard throughout the first pink forest. The brothers came to a tree to find the first female of their people had been born. How the race progressed in its multiplying from there gets a bit sticky to talk about so I will not speak about the bits that are maybe a little uncomfortable for some to read about.

  Back from the bible lesson.

The wild life on Catclog is very close in appearance to those found in the pre-historic eras on Earth, mainly large lizard like creatures. Most of the small life forms are birds of varies sizes and all life on Catclog seems to have a very bird like tent to it.

The highest life form on Catclog, the Catclogian people are in appearance a very tall and slender humanoid species with light blue skin with yellow stripes and small feathers where humans would have hair. They are on average 6ft in height and reproduce in a male, female pattern.

Things changed over time after the three brothers.

See, did not even have to get back into the uncomfortable bits.

The people of Catclog have established one village since the time of the three brothers which grew into one city; which they have called Logch.

They are mainly a farming and art cultured people who mix those two things into everything else that they do.

Logch is a large city mostly made from the interior of a long dead volcano. They coated the inside and outside of the volcano with a metal native to the planet which is about the strength of iron and built up from there.

One member of the wildlife on the planet and its top predator is a very large creature called the Sch which would make the Tyrannosaurus Rex look like a puddle poppy.

The Sch stands five stories high, has six arms, and extra mouths at the end of each of its hands. It is as fast as a tiger and as hard to kill as trying to kill an grey elephant with a butter knife.

The Dawgs of War do not carry butter knifes. They barley carry weapons at all. Each one only armed with two small handguns each. They are weapons themselves, genetically engineered beyond human weapons. They have the ability to fly, posse superhuman strength, and the instincts and agility of a grizzly bear.

The last thing they thought of before this moment was not butter knifes or anything with extra mouths on its hands. The last thing they saw was when they were on a beach in Melbourne, Florida, on Earth and then a few seconds later they were standing within a forest of giant pink trees with a sky above them like nothing they had ever even dreamed of.

The twelve members of The Dawgs are caught in a blank stare at their new surroundings until the unit leader codenamed Safari takes charge of the situation, ‘Take charge of the situation people. I want a circle of four around us while I get a hold of what just happen to us.’

Unit members Garden, Broyhill, Shopper, and Tag create a circle around the other members of the unit. The other members including Safari are Carpet, Park, Kart, Fatt, Thipo, Aggarwal, and Insider are outwardly the uptime of military calm but right now within they are still wondering, What the fuck happen to us?

Just as Safari was about to send Carpet and Park into the air for aerial reconnaissance, out from the trees suddenly and without notice, with a huge bit of mass to do both of those things, charged an extra normally large Sch.

The soldiers reacting on their training and genetically altered abilities and went into action.

Carpet, Park, and Kart raised their feet off the ground and meet the creature in mid air. Faster than anything they had ever seen before the Sch plunged several of its arms through each one of their chests and threw them miles away before even landing back on ground itself amongst what’s left of the military unit.

Safari ordered all of his men to fire but instead of using the hand guns each of them were issued, beams of white energy came from each of their eyes, the beams hit the creature and causing it to yell out in pain.

The pain filled yell was even heard far away in the city and no one there had ever heard a Sch scream like this and thus they felt fear of what could inflict that sort of pain on a creature like the Sch.

Though the Sch was in more pain than ever before, after the smoke of its smoldering body had passed The Dawgs saw it still standing and drooling very large thuds of salvia at the sight of what it saw as a new unusual looking group of snacks.

Safari shouted more orders, ‘Fatt, Thipo, Aggarwal legs, Garden, Broyhill, Shopper neck. Tag with me.’

All at once the soldiers followed their orders.

Seeing them in action you wouldn’t know that this was actually their first time in battle.

The Sch is a very hard creature to kill. The Catclogian people give it a wide birth and try to never cross its path but it can die. The attack of the soldiers lasted a good bloody hour but a bunch of strangers from another planet brought it down.

Fatt and Shopper died in the fight with the Sch. The remaining members of the unit sustained many varying degrees of injury but another thing The Dawgs have going for them is fast healing.

It takes a major injury that shuts down their enhanced healing ability to put one of them away for good.

Fatt died when his head was separated from the rest of his body.

&n
bsp; Shopper had his arms ripped off. He was dying very slowly, a bad effect from their enhanced healing while the fight was still raging; so Safari quickly put a special round they all carry in case of capture in his head.

After checking their wounded and dead the remaining members of The Dawgs are caught by the sight of a huge space craft smoking and on flames diving through the Catclog sky.

Miles away it crashes into the edge of the forest area. Safari is looking through his long sight vision binoculars, ‘Tag take Thipo and find Carpet, Park, and Kart and give them a proper burial and then meet up with us back here with their equipment. Don’t bury anything with them. This is an unknown situation we’re in so we can’t afford to waste anything.’

With their orders Tag and Thipo were off.

‘Aggarwal, Garden start digging graves. Broyhill you will join me in gathering what supplies we can from the dead. This all needs to be done in twenty five minutes. I have no idea what is going on or how we got here but that ship that crashed was technology and if we are going to get out of here bushes and trees will not get it done. I want us ready to move in the direction of the crash by the time Tag and Thipo get back.’

Death waved a flippant hand and sent these soldiers to another world. He spoke at the time that it was a matter of destiny, that they where needed elsewhere. Then it was Shock, Blood, and Move On; which should probably be tattooed on the backs of every warrior.

These men are ready to fight and kill but like any soldier fighting in a strange land they must adapt to the place they have found themselves fighting. They must come up against the weight of hard moral choices. Find out when they need to steer themselves from their training to learn new ways to win.

Soldiers must take on a skin of the sometimes illogical vibe of the strange lands they can find themselves in but keep the under layer of who they are. Sometimes that is the last battle of any war, any conflict, the battle between a soldier and the battlefield itself.

  AUTHOR’S NOTE

I hope everyone enjoys this new edit and revision of Tin Universe #2- Flight Of The Coming Storm as well as the new edit and revision of a chapter from the original publication of STEREO that I cut from the 2.0 version of the book and placed here as a short story.

I think The Dawgs of War fits better separated from that book. It stalled the overall story of Stereo but I liked what I wrote enough to include it here.

If you wish to see more stories with Pulpy or The Dawgs of War let me know. I have many plans for both in the future but what gets tackled first has a lot to do with the feedback I get from readers.

Don’t forget to check out some of the links after this. Maybe you will find something else you might enjoy.

  Thanks for reading,
