  Chapter 5

Roll Call will never be gloomy.

Nathan and Josh decide that it's their duty to get me to homeroom. Just as we're entering the classroom, Josh leans down and whispers in my ear, "By the way, you look cute!"

I want to giggle so badly, but he would think I was being mean. I feel my face heating up and I quickly look away. I can hear him laughing next to my ear, and I love the sound of it; it's just so friendly.

We make our way to the back of the room. Nathan and Josh sit on either side of me. Half way through homeroom, when I'm sure nobody is paying attention to me. I lean over and whisper to Josh, "Thanks for before, I didn't want a big thing made of it."

"My pleasure," he whispers back. "Besides, did you see Ash's face? It was hilarious! I meant what I said before, Kaila. You look hot!"

We grin at each other. I feel like giggling again for no real reason! Nathan brings me down from space with a hard nudge in the ribs.

"Ouch!" I whisper at him. He signals towards the front of the class with his head. I look up and the whole class is looking back at me. Ms Thomson has the type of look on her face that tells you that you're definitely in trouble for something.

"Miss Jenson, would you care to explain what is so funny about roll call?"

"Nothing's funny about roll call Ms Thomson," I say, because nothing is, I must have started giggling anyway.

"Would you like to explain why you were laughing, then?" She's really angry now.

"Josh and I were talking about this week's episode of How I Met Your Mother." She turns to Josh and he gives me a quizzical look before he answers.

"Yeah it was hilarious, I love Barney; he's awesome. Miss, I promise we won't talk inappropriately in class again!" Wow, he can be really convincing.
