True Love Lost Forever
Chapter One
They met on a Blood Moon
Logan remembered meeting Aideen when they were both six years old. Running and playing in the fresh, green grass of early spring, it was his earliest memory. Both had been oblivious to the reasons why their parents had come together on that special celebration. A Blood Moon was to rise on the equinox that night, when the veil between light and dark is removed- as it did every six years, as it had when Logan and Aideen were born. Some called it a blessing, others condemned it as being a bad omen. It didn't matter to Logan and Aideen, as they laughed and ran through the trees.
Logan's father- Kelvyn Shekowl and Aideen's father- Teaghue Apollumi, grew up like brothers in the small farming community of Natash, their family home for generations. Eventually, Teaghue moved to the city of Sarivan, where he began to apply his trade, and Kelvyn went to Dayden Falls. But they remained close. In time, Teaghue married Nara and Kelvyn married Erina. In just over a year, Erina gave birth to Logan and four months later, Nara had Aideen. That spring was a Blood Moon Equinox.
For two more years life was good, both couples prospered, while Logan and Aideen grew. Until, the winter before Logan and Aideen turned three. An epidemic spread through the area, leaving many dead as it coursed quickly through the cities. It was a time of great, morning and suffering for the land and became known as 'The Winter of Death'. Those that survived, found themselves unable to have children and the Shekowl's and Apollumi's were two such couples. They lived through the plague but were unable to have any more children, so they began to talk about wanting the best for the children they did have.
In the spring when Logan and Aideen turned six, they met in their home town on the equinox of the blood moon. They came to make a covenant under the special, full moon that would give Logan and Aideen the best possible future. The early, spring night was warm, as the stars glistened in their eternal, places throughout the inky, black sky. The full moon shined larger than normal as its bright, clear, radiant light pushed aside the darkness. It was a night when everything seemed to glow, as Logan and Aideen played close to their parents. The feasts were over and the town had quieted as everyone waited patiently for the eclipse.
The families were gathered so all would be a witness to the making of the covenant. A round, stone with dolomite seams running through the hard rock, sat in the middle of a small, hot fire. As the eclipse began, the clear moon light began to take on a red hue as if it were bathed in blood. A sudden quiet came upon the town as they all watched the spectacle. When the moon was completely eclipsed, everything became shadow. Crimson light filtered through the darkness, matching the light from the waning fire. As the ritual began, Teaghue and Nara, Kelvyn and Erina agreed for Logan and Aideen to be arranged for marriage when they turned eighteen years old, as long as both consented when the time came. Both parents agreed to encourage this as the children grew. Standing over the bright, red coals of the fire, Teaghue took the ceremonial dagger that they had prepared and in front of the witnesses and whatever god may be watching, dragged it across the palm of his hand. Blood pooled around the sharp, blade as Teaghue's life essence dripped onto the hot rock. It sizzled and steamed as the vapour rose, evaporating into the dark. Kelvyn did the same, followed by Nara and Erina, sealing the covenant. The children were oblivious to what was taking place. Aideen was already fast asleep in her aunt's arms and Logan watched with wide eyes.
