Bradley was starting to get impatient as he waited in the unmoving line of vehicles. Suddenly in his rear view mirror, he saw a group of people in orange vests and hard hats approaching. It was the road crew coming to clean up the load of timber. They should know what’s going on, Bradley thought as he got out of the car, walked up to one of them, and showed his badge.

“I’m Special Agent Bradley. What’s going on here?”

“Hey! You’re that FBI guy from the TV!” the man exclaimed. He turned quickly and waved to his companions. “Hey guys! Look who we have here.”

Bradley grabbed the man’s arm. “That’s DEA and I’m in a hurry so why don’t you tell me what’s going on,” he said, firmly.

The man turned back to Bradley. “There’s been an accident and the road is closed. We’re supposed to turn everyone around and send them back the way they came.”

“How do I get through? It’s an emergency!”

“You don’t. Not unless you want to sit in your car until dark,” came the reply.

“Damn!” Bradley said as he turned and ran to his car. After parking it on the side of the road, he grabbed his black bag and ran down the road towards the scene of the accident. It can’t be far, he thought as he checked his watch. His only hope was to get to the other side of the blockage and commandeer a vehicle. If his luck holds, he should be able to make it in time.
