Alan heard foot steps as he moved through the middle of the barn. Someone was coming! He couldn’t get caught out in the open, he thought nervously to himself. So he rushed towards the straw pile for protection while squinting hard against the glare from the door, trying to see. Suddenly, a silhouette of a man moved into the light of the doorway. Alan didn’t see the oat bucket as his foot squarely hit it and, kicking it across the walkway.

  Clang!

The bucket crashed against one of the supports, then bounced across the ground. Alan stumbled to one side then dropped to one knee, lifting his .44 magnum towards the silhouette.

“Federal Agent! Don’t move!” he yelled.

Startled by the noise, Buck turned quickly holding the pitchfork in both hands.
