Read Under Suspicion - The Legend of D.B. Cooper Page 51

Milhouse turned and ran towards Alan when he was called. He was anxious to make a good impression. This morning, at the station, Tom hadn’t recognized Agent Bradley and felt stupid for it. It only took a few minutes for Tom to realize who Bradley was and he immediately got excited.

Tom had seen Agent Bradley on TV many times. He recalled the TV show The Worlds Most Dangerous Car Chases, which had featured one of Agent Bradley’s arrests. It was the most exciting thing Milhouse had ever witnessed!

Agent Bradley was in hot pursuit of a drug dealer on a high performance motorcycle. As the news helicopter recorded everything from the air, Tom watched the motorcycle weave through traffic on I-5 at speeds exceeding a hundred miles an hour with Bradley’s black corvette on his tail.

Realizing he couldn’t get away on the highway, the dealer took an exit to try and lose Bradley in the residential areas. They came to a corner, where each slammed on the brakes then the gas. The tires screeched, creating long black skid marks. Then they squealed and smoked as the two vehicles sped off to the next intersection to do it all again. The dealer tried everything he could to shake Bradley, but Alan didn’t falter. Up one street, then down another. The duel continued until finally a mistake was made.

Dodging a car, the motorcycle fishtailed then launched its rider into the air. Both the cycle and driver spun across the pavement into the middle of an intersection. Instantly, the black vette squealed to a halt, just inches from the dealer. Jumping out with gun in hand, Agent Bradley raced to the man, threw him on the vette’s hood, and cuffed him.

Special Agent Alan Bradley turned, looked up at the camera in the helicopter, then waved and smiled. It was the coolest thing Milhouse had ever seen! Agent Bradley was exactly what Tom hoped to become and he was determined to learn everything he could. In real life, Tom towered over Alan, maybe that was why he didn’t recognize him earlier. Because on TV, Special Agent Alan Bradley was larger than life.
