Nikki rushed out of the bedroom followed by Jim who was wearing a robe and rubbing his eyes. Jim grabbed the clicker and turned up the volume. As the report continued he slowly sat down on the couch.

  “That’s Buck’s place.”

“How can you tell?” Nikki asked as she looked at his shocked pale face.

“That’s his dock in the background.”

“Oh my gosh,” Nikki said a moment later, in an uneasy voice. “Does that mean that Buck is the victim?”

Jim didn’t hear her. His entire attention was focused on the screen. They watched the remainder of the broadcast in silence. When it was over, Jim pushed a button on the remote and the TV went black.

“What’s going on, Jim?” Nikki asked worriedly.

“I’m not sure,” he replied with a shocked look on his face. “Buck was fine when I left him.” After a moment of silence Jim looked at Nikki. “Why didn’t anyone call me?”

Her face became red. “I’m sorry, Jim. I disconnected the phone so that you could get some rest,” she bit her lip, hoping he wouldn’t be mad.

Jim gave her a stern look. “I’d better get out there.” He stood and rushed into the bedroom.
