not being able to tell you that I absolutely adore you tore me apart. And I want you to know that if you’ll have me, I will never leave again.” Michael leaned close to her face, and when he was an inch from her lips, he continued. “Well, except for tomorrow, when I leave on the flight, but after that, and once we get back home, and we—”
“Michael,” Amy said. “Just kiss me.”
Their lips sank into one another like curious young lovers. Amy didn’t count how long their lips were pressed together as they kissed, but when they finally parted, their clothes were strewn around the room, and they were rolling around the bed, interlocked, skin upon skin.
Michael momentarily stopped kissing her, and Amy curled her neck involuntarily as her skin reached out for his warm, soft kisses.
“Open your eyes,” he said. “I want to look into your eyes.”
Amy opened her eyes and stared at Michael whose dark eyes peered into her being. They lay on the bed, side by side, panting and smiling, but not speaking. They simply stared at each other and communicated with light caresses and dry kisses full of hot breath.
Eventually, Michael led her to the Jacuzzi, and they sipped champagne from long, thin glasses. Under the blanket of foamy bubbles, Amy lay back against Michael’s chest, and his fingers slowly began to massage her skin. Again, they began to kiss and made love for a second time. They kept their eyes open and completely focused on one another. It was as if their souls were interlaced.
Amy didn’t close her eyes until she fell asleep later that night, much later, with Michael’s arms around her, and his nose nestled behind her ear.
When she finally woke up, the morning light peeked around the heavy hotel curtains. Amy had approximately ten minutes to make the first of many seminars that day, but she wasn’t in any rush; she wanted to savor every moment from last night. She knew Michael had an early flight and was thankful for the extra sleep, but there was a piece of her that wanted to kiss him good-bye; to feel his lips again and convince herself that last night wasn’t just a wonderful dream. Amy rolled over to see if the musky scent that had been intoxicating the previous night at the bar was still on his pillow, and she noticed a small envelope with her name on it.
She twirled it in her hands, reading her name over and over again, before carefully tearing a side and pulling out the thin piece of white paper with the hotel logo at the bottom.
Amy,
Forgive me for not waking you, but you looked so peaceful, so I thought it best to let you sleep. Last night was … magical; you are an amazing woman, and I am so thankful that you have come back into my life.
If you have any free time over the next couple of days, it would be great to hear how the seminars are going; otherwise, I look forward to hearing all about it when you return home.
I will be counting the days until I see you again.
Yours Truly,
Michael
Amy curled the letter to her chest and rolled over the covers smiling and laughing to herself. When she reached the edge of the bed, she twisted onto her side and pressed the radio button on the alarm clock. Most stations had morning talk shows, but eventually she found one that played easy listening music. Amy stretched out in bed and sang all the lyrics to the first love song she heard.

Joshua Cole had a strong aversion to reading until he came across Night Shift by Stephen King during his sophomore year in high school. Horror and dark fantasy have been his main interests since.
After an enchanting courtship, and two passionate years of marriage, his wife encouraged him to pursue writing romantic fiction. Joshua enjoys creating characters with strong internal conflicts caused by external, and often uncontrollable forces. This genre provides a platform to do so, as these characters explore their desire for affection and affirmation.
In all of his writing he hopes to entwine elements of romance, suspense, and, when possible, horror.
He is currently living in the seacoast of New Hampshire with his beautiful wife and amazing daughter. When he is not writing, he loves to draw, play chess, watch New England sports, and cook without recipes
