He watched her as she laughed with the tall vampire, sliding into his divine sight one more time. The way the energy ebbed and flowed around her, the way her aura pulsed with every color of the rainbow, made his mouth water. She was magnificent. He’d known it the moment he’d walked into the dingy little bar earlier and saw her drinking with the other one, the necromancer. He’d been using his second sight then, too, hunting out someone worthy enough to be his next meal. Then he’d just thought she was a magnificent meal waiting to be devoured. He hadn’t realized she was the one he’d been looking for. The one that would change everything.

He’d hoped the necromancer would leave, and he could buy her a drink. Perhaps lure her outside where they had some privacy. He’d sat at a table in the corner and watched, but the necromancer never left. He’d just been ready to give up the juicy prize and find another worthy soul when the beauty began to dance with him. He couldn’t resist the urge to get a little closer. She was so full of energy that it lured him. In this state, in this body, he couldn’t feel the energy, but he couldn’t resist the urge to take a closer look at her pulsing aura.

So he asked some stray woman to dance and pushed her across the dance floor to be near the beauty. Now he was so glad he had. He’d just slipped into his second sight when her aura began to pulse wildly. The energy in the room began vibrating towards her. Her aura flared so bright it blinded him for a moment, so that he stumbled and nearly knocked his dance partner into the other couple.

He got too close. Her aura blinked out, and she’d stumbled. He could tell she hadn’t known what happened and he retreated quickly, so that she wouldn’t figure it out.

He’d been stunned. She wasn’t just a quick and yummy meal. She was everything he’d been looking for but hadn’t been sure existed.

He wanted her, and he would have her. But it was clear the vampire wasn’t going anywhere soon. This body was starting to tire. He’d have to leave it soon, and he needed new energy. He’d been deprived last night by that horrible little thing, not just of her essence, but also of a perfectly usable body. He’d find her again, and when he did, he’d devour her in the most painful way possible. Because of the little brat, he couldn’t afford to wait around to try to get the beauty alone. He needed sustenance soon.

Slipping back into regular sight, he left the bar to follow a group of girls who he heard talking about going to another bar down the block. He was sure that with this body, he could lure one of them away from the group. They all had low- to mid-level powers, but that was okay. He could make do with substandard nourishment for a little while longer.

He’d find the beauty again, soon, and she would be his. Forever. She wouldn’t just nourish his body for a day or two. She would transform him. She would make him a God.
