bag.
The dead were too slow to dodge and the strength of well-trained bodies made the difference.
While the rest were capturing the subjects, the largest number was guarding the exit and striking all forms of dead life that passed in front of them.
Now the first part of the task was complete, only missing the most complex part, about crossing the city with zombies.
Unhurried, they went down with the elevator and out the front door with very few dead, entering the building out of curiosity, if they were able to feel such a thing.
With long strides, now outside, each went hand in hand with a dead and a potent weapon in the other, ready to shoot the first to get in the way.
Stealing one of the abandoned car was out of the question, as there were many in the streets, disrupting the crossing.
Walking in the shade with those gray pregnant women generated a subtle shiver, even for them who saw and caused grotesque deaths during life.
Those undead were different, with an abnormal air and a ominous "vibration", resembling ghosts.
However, of all men, Sanches was what had the most different feeling in his gut.
It was the first time he was holding a human hand after his wife's death. And, since this one was dead, he had the feeling of living an irony, a piece of personal nightmare.
The other hand, holding the weapon against the undead, seemed increasingly automatic, expert, able to aim from distance enough to be seen as a lucky consecutive move.
After some streets and avenues, firing and opening the way, there were the bars of the city park and a disturbing number of dead circulating nearby.
The men prepared their weapons and aimed, but Sanchez had something else in his heart, calling his deep instincts.
His memory of the most horrible moments of his life whispered into his ear to imagine the dead ahead as the criminals that ended his family in the past.
Uncontrolled, the man accepted such suggestion and left the hand of the pregnant woman to move on, without giving any sign to his colleagues, just breathing hard, eyes wide inside the helmet, invisible to others.
His right hand went to the knife inside the waist compartment, pulling a new blade sharpened for the mission.
Of all the weapons, the knife was the least desired by the rest of the group for security reasons, but not for Carlos Sanchez, not now.
In such speed he bent his body backward as someone ready to throw a baseball as far as possible, then threw hi body forward, nailing the glowing metal in the first dead man who crossed his path.
The knife cooperated and he didn't wait the first fall to continue striking the next and the next.
Blows against the bones of the skull, fortified by an old anger and contained insanity...
There were no zombies in Sanchez's eyes, only shadows of the attackers in his memory, in the deepest of memories.
When the crowd made their way around him, he pushed the dead with his body, striked nodding with hard helmet, screamed, kicked and continued cutting.
The dead fell and the other man gathered, but the group was not to approach Sanchez, horrified, thinking the "number 03" went crazy.
Slowly they walked to the street corners and began firing at the dead in the peripheral corners, reducing the work of their mate, taken by insanity.
Suddenly, the standing dead ended and only left Sanchez, looking for more movement, searching for new victims, more hunting.
No one approached to ask anything and even he was keen to justify.
Trying to calm down, he came back a few steps and took the pregnant zombie left behind, squeezing her hand with the same intensity that he held the knife a few seconds ago.
If she were still alive and human, she would have felt the finger bones snapping.
Now they would soon be there.
As expected, there really was a different scene on the adressed spot.
A helicopter, painted green, camouflaging itself in the grass, had a woman before him, wearing a suit, too well dressed for the situation.
From behind her glasses, she watched the approaching men with the living dead beside.
Before they approached completely, she ordered them to stop.
Confused, they hardly stopped when a large group of men emerged from the vegetation around the park, all masked and armed.
Surrounded, they were searched and ordered to abandon all weapons, for the job was already done.
Carefully, the group of camouflaged soldiers took the creatures and escorted them to a deeper side of the park, along with the weapons.
The woman in front of the helicopter, in a nutshell, explained what would come next:
"You did well, now part of the team will take the pregnant women to the other side of the park, where they will find another camouflaged helicopter.
The undead will be of great service, but you have already fulfilled your roles and do not need more weapons. "
Taking one hand in her pocket, she pulled out a small object with a few buttons, then pressed one of them.
Immediately, the group, now decommissioned, felt a slight sting from inside their suits.
Before they could question anything, three armed soldiers were positioned beside the woman, with heavy weapons, so she explained what had just done:
"You have completed your work and are now free, but our organization reflected on this matter, and we are aware that you know a little but much after this task, it is not safe to leave you out there with the possibility of spreading details of the mission .. .
So you just felt small stings of a simple device we put in your clothes.
This releases a small dose of the virus that infected most of this city.
You see, it's not safe for our purpose that witnesses can put our organization at risk ... ".
Following the coldness in the voice of the woman, the group despaired, with many threatening to move forward and end her life, but now she was protected by heavy weapons.
In the midst of their despair, she justified without any feeling in her tone:
"I'm just following orders, It was not my decision to betray your team, but it fell to me to apply this sentence ...".
Horrified, some of the men dropped around the corners, under the trees, waiting for death to come sooner or later.
Now they had no chance to get out of town, especially due to the lack of weapons.
Amid the chaos, there was Sanchez, removing the heavier parts of his clothes and lifting the helmet.
Unhurried, he deposited the protection on the ground and walked forth, being in the sights of rifles.
"I want to help," he said with the quiet tone he had when not taken by the madness.
As no one understood what he meant, the man made himself understand:
"I don't know what you are doing and nor what you want to do with those pregnant, but I know it's experience with people's bodies... Outside the law.
Could I be used as a living as an experiment?
Take me with you. "
Startled, the woman looked into the eyes of Sanchez and said:
"There is no cure for the virus, you are going to continue with it in you."
The cool and calm look of Sanchez, for a minute, overtook her when he answered without fear:
"I've lost my life and stability of mind ... Are you so helpless that you can not do something to this body that goes beyond a rotten dead trudging a frightened city?
This is highest point of your creation or there's more than that?".
Now even the armed men were questioning the mind of Carlos and his actions, but he had more words:
"You may think you've created horrors, but I will tell you from personal experience: monsters always existed inside our skulls.
Dirty souls, disguised as a humans, living hidden in houses like ours, horrifying innocent people's life, destroying what is good, destroying society and the world itself.
Do you think these fragile walking corpses can be called "monsters" ?
> This is just a toy in the hand of people with money. With power.
Give me power, inject me the worst of you and I challenge anyone to see what will be born in this flesh.
I'm in my last hours of life, thanks to the virus, right? So answer my last request and let's see what you are capable of. "
Without any answer, the woman entered the helicopter and made a rather silent call.
In a few moments she returned and asked the infected if someone wanted to "do the same madness."
No one said anything, leaving this last job to Sanchez.
In propitious time to leave, they entered the helicopter and the propellers began to turn, announcing the departure.
The aircraft carrying the undead was the first to rise, then the other, with Sanchez, surrounded by armed men, fearing he could transform ahead of time.
With expertise, they left the city and entered the sky, now covering the eyes of Carlos with a makeshift cloth, so he could not see the way to the point where it would be presented to the origins of the horrors.
He was uninformed from the beginning to the end, after landing when the aircraft descended, still blindfolded and taken into the installation.
He had no visibility at all, just moved from one corner to the other, down elevators, crossing corridors,
