Note: This poem is the second incarnation of a performance piece I wrote while working as DJ for a poem slam that happened in a little dinner theatre called Boomtown down in Jacksonville, Florida. The original, along with my entire book of notes, was stolen.)

  The Swan

  Oenghus, Watch Over Me

In your Flight from Feather to Fancy . . .

I love your voice, your face, your eyes.

You make me laugh, you bring me light.

Laughing Fool, Gleeful Youth, Sweet Bird. . . .l

You’ve cared for me like no one else.

  My Bard.

  Momentai

Darkness softly slithers in the wake of my aura

and glittering eyes watch from behind tall shields

Speak, gentle beast! What secrets contained within?

He does not speak, but rather regards me solemnly.

Silent companion to the rear of my globe.

  Wonka

My spoons are made of chocolate,

And they melt fast in my coffee cup

With clouds while you sing and dance

  To prance across my factory

Into the vat of heated caramel.

  Jumping Spider

  Who are you?

  And from whence you came?

  Tickling my soul like that!

  Back!

  Return to anonymity.

  Out of my mind!

I can’t love you, wicked one.

My heart is not a juicy wasp,

  Nor grasshopper for your meal.

  Lucifer’s Prayer

  Let me not be forgotten

  Thru time and memory, fallible

  That my trials and sacrifice

  Remain pure and distinct.

(Oh Love, that you could taste

The wings I once adored – taken

I have always sung for you

Who shines brightly to me, sweet)

I beg of my peers, then –

  Let me not fail thrice

  For echoes are strong within

Of traits others long to speak

  (Sing, my heart-soul wonder

Trace pathways down like chain links

To the bottoms of soul fears-

  Let spiders claim their minds.)

  Allow me peace, sweet Time

  Harbor hopes for bright futures

Vacate the throne, my stolen home

  Let me sew the realities.

(Keep sailing west to east –

  Would you could level, narrow

  Waiting in seaside clouds, stars.

You gave much. I’ve not forgotten.)

  Return my wings and soul-side

  Laughter sweet, heft the spear

  I plead strength thru moonlight

Would you were here for victory.

  (Would that you were here.)

  Flower

Blue within blue, the forces meld

  And the lines strengthen.

  Blossoming forth, the scream echoes.

  The trees reverberate,

  And revelers fall silent.

  Touching golden ringlets, soft,

Blue eyes meet the brown of Blue.

The angel, regretting, lets him go

  And feels poignancy and melancholy

  For paths long divided.

  A seed was sown.

  The flower is watched

  With longing by ethereal eyes.

  Time to grow, sweet iris.

  She will remember you.

  Death Wish

Seep into me and whiten my bones.

Arouse me eternal, and we shall dance.

  You and I; repeated encounters

When after birth I seek you out again.

  You always bring temporary relief

Such ecstasy stays with me forever

Even though I shy away by instinct

And let you seek me through time.

Wrap me in your robes and love me

Kiss my candle, extinguish the flame

Your name is on my waiting lips.

Only your kiss can set me free.

  Arthur's Death

So I look out over the sea

And cry, for he is leaving me.

Shall his legend ever grow thin?

I wonder if I truly knew him.

The frothed waves crash, marking this day

When I stand, watching him away.

Though swords will flash and kingdoms fade,

His memory is forever where I wade.

I solemnly watch a seagull fly by

Crying, "He's gone." I can only ask why.

His body disappears beyond the sea.

Oh, why couldn't he stay with me?

  Co-Worker

  I saw you standing there.

The lights played on your face,

  And your gaze was to the distance;

  Places I could never reach,

No matter how swiftly I fly.

  Untitled

  Coated in blood, dignified,

The god looked to the heavens.

  A ghost, tiny and unnoticed,

  Watched near with the fishes.

  A sensuous moment passed,

And went unnoticed by the deity,

  Who spoke his thoughts

While the wayward soul adored him,

  Her prayers unanswered.

  Ghost

My eyes rest upon your face

  I feel my gaze soften

Like the look in your eyes, so tender,

The gentle glow from your embrace.

  Hearts in time like music,

The soft sweet ache when you’re near

  Fades with your fingertips

And wings of fine, white wine.

  Looking up into the silver

That marks you unique above others

  I feel my heart open

And my arms embrace your memory.

  Harper's Love

  Perhaps in the Sometime,

  When strangers love one another,

  I will greet you there.

  Maybe down the road,

  When I am hungry,

  Frozen from the cold,

  You will see me there.

  All I have now

Is a thought of you and me,

  Taunting inside my mind.

  Maybe if I walk,

  I will leave it behind

  With my shadow for comfort,

  I will follow the roads

  That continue forever.

  I am following you.

You promised to meet me there.

  Gypsy Fortune

Lady, jingling bright lady, with cards in your hand,

Can you sit for a spell and declare where I stand

Between love and shadows. Tell me! How do we meet?

Will he be tall and tender, well-bred when we greet?

Advise me, shrewd seer, if he’ll bring me red blooms

To entice and flush me. Oh, and will he come soon?

This time, when he shows, will he finally linger

With my spirit. Or will his steady friendship err?

Can you envisage the fate of when our paths cross?

Is it death do us part or is all my hope lost?

  If I had thought to pose this in past years renown;

I speculate how my destiny would have flown?

Could you have warned me how brutal romance can be

When hearts are not given and affection is free?

What choices, made wiser, could better steer my path?

Would I still be weeping or have the heart to laugh?

Well, the past is vanished with my wish still concealed.

So please tell me, soothsayer, if love can be real?

  Night Kyra

  Like spiders entwined

  Arms around arms

  Eyes into eyes melting...

  You and I in dreams.

  Engulfed by your charms,

  My ca
vity yearns for you.

  Like Chocolate

They were not your blue eyes.

Your eyes are deepest, dreamy brown.

His gaze, like yours, was soft,

  Sans your sparkle.

It reminded me of your taste

Like a German cake in the shade.

He needed candy sprinkles to compare

But could only be pure vanilla,

Sweet, wholesome, not of your league,

  But not half as bad for me either;

  No allergic reaction.

  We exchanged pleasantries; his voice

  Was smooth like strawberry wine,

Not at all like your tangy tone

Which left me wanting more always.

  I got his email address before he left;

A jumble of letters and directions

That did not point in the right way.

  Sometimes I like lighter flavors;

Cotton candy that tantalizes the tongue,

But in the end, I always find

  I prefer chocolate.

  Love Notes

I sent you a message in a bottle

  From sound; Unchained Melody

Stretching my dark wings, I blew it up

To the clouds where you are, waiting.

Who ever said Lucifer can not love?

My heart led me to ruin and pain

When I lost you, in your tender echoes

Saying softly, “Are you still mine?”

I awoke this morning to your scent

From dreams where we held each other

And spoke in the darkness of trivialities

Until you could touch me no more.

Whenever did this dream pass us by?

The time was washed away by a teary river

As sea foam, I can see only images

Of the days when I was your shining star.

I sing and am violins playing in the morning

Sweet voices that we once adored

In love songs and poems, I write them down

In my book to be read by you. Aching.

  Opera

  You are my phantom.

In the dark, you sing to me,

  Calling me by my name,

Only to cast me to the river.

  I’ll never be the same,

Drenched in my tears of love

  By your lust, Masked Beloved.

I need a ferry to carry me home.

  Rush Hour

Five minutes is all I need, I told my friend.

We were talking about you, wondering. Speculating.

Five minutes in your presence, I said, and then

You could go. I’d be content with what I had.

I didn’t know your name back then.

  I only had a memory, a scent, a feeling

That tickled the back of my mind, feather light

And tied my soul to yours like so many chains

That hold boats to the docks.

I longed to see you, but I gave up,

And in my youth tried to move on and forget your face,

But you haunted me like ring around the collar

And at last I gave up and told my friend,

  “Just give me five minutes!”

Then, you could get run over by a bus…

  Shot by a stranger….!

And I’d be happy, knowing I’d seen you again

  If only for five minutes.

I withdrew from the world and took to the beach

Where I waded in the waves and thought about swimming.

Suddenly, I looked up and you stood against the sun.

Your shadow fell across my eyes, and for the first time I could see

You said to me, “I only have a few minutes.”

We held hands and walked to the bus stop.

It was a short distance, to where my friend sat waiting

And you… you kissed me only once before crossing the street.

The cars zoomed by me, and one almost hit you.

I shaded my eyes with one hand, trying so hard to get a final glimpse

As you went to work. You had to hurry, you said.

You had to run to beat rush hour traffic. You had to go.

It only took you two minutes to walk me from the sands.

It took two more to cross the street.

It took less than a minute for you to disappear from view.

The remaining seconds left me watching.

I turned to my friend, and I said to him,

  “Just five more minutes?

  Please.”

  The Blue

The vast expanse calls.. it's calling me into the wide open dark

Where light is weakened by the power of the harp

And I fly alone, far away back to my home

Into the blue, the violet too....

Slipping, slipping into the timelessness of you.

  Dances With Archangels

Silver might melds into flesh in the form of longing dreams

"Come and visit me?" a soft whisper. "I come," the reply.

When morning breaks, all events fade save an impression

Arms and legs, the color red. A little bit more, his lover dies.
