Read Young Zachary the Beginning Page 3

My parents are shocked when they notice a police patrol car parked in our driveway.

As my dad is getting out of the car he mumbles; “now what has that kid done. I swear you can’t leave him alone for a minute….”

My mom replies; “now, dear, let’s find out what happened before you go off half-cocked.”

When my dad hears the news, he hugs me and says; “I guess you have the knack.”

What happened was when I was about to put the heavy gnome on the workbench it slipped out of my hands and fell on the floor. The impact caused it to crack open and reveal a bag. I put on some gloves and looked in the bag. After seeing what’s inside, I called the police and they arrested Mister Snift. The lieutenant waited for my parents to arrive so he can explain what happened.

My dad proudly looks at me, “to think all these months we’ve been living next to a jewel thief. But why not keep the gnome on his property.”

The Lieutenant says, “I believe he did that so if we did search his property we would come up empty handed. With no connection to him and the gnome we would never consider it as a hiding place for the jewels.” As he walks towards his car, he turns and says; “it’s a good thing your son called us when he did. When we searched Snift’s house, we found a one-way plane ticket to the Cayman Islands.

As I walk into the house, I jump up and down with my hands up in the air and shout; “I DID IT. I’M A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR.”
