The real Eleanor Porden-Franklin died in 1825, a few weeks after her husband, John Franklin, left on an expedition to survey the Northern Canadian Coastline. Their only daughter, Eleanor Isabella, was born June 4 1824. Upon his return, John Franklin received Knighthood and married after a brief courtship, his deceased wife’s friend, Jane Griffin. William Edward Parry married Isabella Stanley in 1826. John and James Ross never settled their differences and continued battling their opposing opinions for the rest of their lives. William Scoresby continued being a pariah at the Admiralty until Sir John Barrow’s death in 1848, then he began to receive the accolade he deserved for his inventions. Francis Crozier met and fell in love with Franklin’s niece Sophia Cracroft in 1840, pursued courtship, but was inevitably turned down twice. The second time he asked for her hand in marriage was before Franklin’s last expedition sailed in 1845, both men were never seen alive again.
