Bobby Monster saw a long queue of excited people. He joined the end of the queue.
A little boy in front of him turned around and smiled at him.
“Hi, I’m Nathan. Are you excited about the game? My dad says it’s going to be great,” the little boy said.
“Hello, Nathan, I’m Bobby. Everyone looks so happy here,” Bobby said with a big grin on his furry face.
“Of course they’re happy. It’s the last game of the season. My dad says it’s going to be the best ever!” Nathan told him.
Bobby looked at the people in the queue. They were chatting and laughing. Some were even singing and dancing! It made his tummy feel warm to see so many happy people.
His furry toes began to tap.
Nathan noticed. “Are you dancing?” he asked.
Bobby chuckled. “I am. I think I must be excited about the game too! When does it start?”
“Soon.” Nathan reached into his pocket. “I have to keep my ticket safe. Dad said he should keep hold of it but I told him I was big enough to look after it myself.”
Nathan pulled his ticket out and showed it to Bobby.
“Where’s your ticket? I can’t see any pockets on you,” Nathan said.
The smile fell from Bobby’s face. “I haven’t got a ticket. Do I need one?”
Nathan nodded. “You can’t come in unless you have one.”
“But where do I get one from?” Bobby asked.
Nathan shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ll ask my dad. He knows everything about the game.”
Nathan tugged on the man’s sleeve who was standing at his side.
The man looked down and smiled. “Hey, Nathan. We’ll be moving soon.”
“Dad, where do we get tickets from? Bobby the monster wants to know.”
Nathan’s dad looked over at Bobby. He jumped a little. He leant down to Nathan and whispered. “Don’t call that man a monster. He can’t help it if he’s very hairy. And very pink.”
Bobby leant down and whispered, “I don’t mind being called a monster, I am one. Please, can you tell me where to get a ticket from?”
Nathan’s dad straightened up. He stared at Bobby for a while and then pointed to something behind him.
Bobby smiled when he saw a ticket booth. “Thank you. See you inside, Nathan.”
Nathan waved goodbye. Bobby walked towards the ticket booth, dancing a little as he went.
Chapter 2
There was a small queue at the ticket booth. Bobby joined the end of the queue. He tapped on the woman’s shoulder in front.
Before he could ask if he was in the right place the woman screamed and ran away.
“She mustn’t be feeling very well,” Bobby said to himself and he moved a step closer.
A few minutes later Bobby was at the front of the queue. The man at the ticket booth gave him a big smile and said, “Hey! I see you’ve come in fancy dress today.”
Bobby frowned. “I’m not wearing a dress. Can I have a ticket for the game, please?”
“Sure. Are you a big baseball fan?” the man asked.
Bobby frowned even more. “Baseball? What’s that?”
The man laughed out loud. “You’re funny! Are you some sort of clown?”
“I don’t think so,” Bobby said. He couldn’t help but smile as the man continued to laugh.
The man handed him a ticket and asked for some money.
Bobby scratched his head. “I don’t have any money. Do I need some?”
The man burst into laughter again. “Stop it! You’re making my sides ache with all these jokes. I’ll pay for your ticket. I haven’t laughed so much in years!”
Bobby smiled at the man and said thank you.
Some people were so kind.
Bobby held his ticket tight and then followed some other people as they headed towards some big gates.
When he walked through the gates Bobby stopped still. He gasped.
“Look at all these people! There’s lots and lots and lots of them!”
And the noise! It was so loud!
And the field he was standing in was enormous! You could fit a million Bobbies in it.
He looked up and down at the rows of people. He couldn’t spot Nathan anywhere.
He thought about trying to find a seat somewhere in the noisy crowd.
Then he looked around at where he was. He spotted a bench at the side of the field. It was empty.
He walked over and sat down on the bench. Someone had left a blue shirt there.
“How kind. I get a free gift,” Bobby said.
He pulled on the shirt. It was a bit tight and Bobby thought he heard a little ripping noise as he pulled it over his head.
Bobby looked around as people began to find empty seats. Soon, everyone was sitting down.
Suddenly, there was an enormous roar as the crowd cheered.
It was so loud that it made Bobby fall off the bench.
When he climbed back on he saw some people had come to join him. They were all wearing the same blue shirt as him.
