  He needed to get this out of the way fast. He had to work to do. This had already taken far longer than he had originally planned, and if she really was the council woman’s daughter, he was definitely going to have to get his face changed. He couldn’t ever go back to Nuisance Apprehenders either.

  He’d stay here for a while and do something he had been neglecting: visiting with his men, making sure there was no unrest occurring among them, and that they were properly prepared to do his bidding in the coming new world order.

  He also wanted to arrange to get some women up here for them: he needed to keep them complacent. That pitch he’d been giving them about women being too distracting was wearing thin and he’d noticed some restlessness the last time he’d been at their barracks.

  He’d given each one just enough pleasure in the beginning to get their trust, to get them to follow him but he couldn’t keep pleasuring them with his esa, he wasn’t that strong. Besides, he didn’t want them becoming addicted to him. He had enough problems just keeping Charles and the Healer satisfied, not to mention a few others he’d been rash enough to allow to become addicted, people he still needed. He’d learned the folly of that.

  Still, he knew he’d be successful in his bid for power. The precog had Seen it. Jade was going to have to be taught her lesson later. Besides, he needed to get his Healer back up here first.

  Now, he wanted what was his due.
