Jade looked at him, and her face scrunched up, her cheeks bulged out, and she threw up. Violently. It went all over him and his ugly, scarred, erect member.

He cursed and lashed his hand out, striking her across the side of her face, catching her lip with one of his manicured fingernails.

  Her ears rang.

He reached down and tore her tunic off and wiped himself off with it, flinging it to the floor.

Then, still cursing, he went to the foot of the bed and fumbled with the shackles, cursing the fact that his men had only put one ring there, forcing him to bind both legs to one ring instead of him being able to bind them apart. He’d discovered that too late to get it changed. He had punishments planned for the two imbeciles who’d done it.

He got the shackles from around her ankles, slapped her legs apart, bent over to climb on top of her, and she twisted to the side, quickly drawing her knee up and snapped one leg out, driving her foot into his stomach. He made a woofing noise as the air rushed out of him, and he staggered back from the bed, losing his footing and landing on his butt.

He caught his breath, struggled to his feet and came forward again, wheezing out a curse, and reached for her legs with a trembling hand. She swiveled back around and lashed out, kicking him hard in his flagging ugliness with her heel, raising a satisfying high-pitched scream out of him as he slid away and thumped to the floor again, holding himself.

She realized the real reason S’tella had encouraged her to eat all that food. She must have Seen at least this part coming. She still had a little left in her, if needed. She felt the shackles on her wrists jiggle as if being tested, and she knew Kendis was very near. In fact, he had to be right outside looking in since he had to actually see whatever he worked on with his esa.

She could hear Montford groan and curse.

“Godsdamned!” he sobbed, shrilly. He managed to half stagger up, his already pale face gone pastier, in a crouched over position. On trembling legs, he crab-walked over and grabbed the fork from the stand and hobbled back to the bed. Jade had already readied herself to raise her legs to block him and place a firm whack to his temple - which would have stunned him, if not knocked him completely out - when the window shattered.

Montford jerked back in shock, dropping the fork. He slipped in vomit and fell on his butt again, gasping as Kendis landed inside the room - knees slightly bent. Eagle was hovering outside.

The shackles clicked and fell off, and Jade sat up rubbing her wrist. Montford stared up at them, mouth agape.

“Look out for the stuff on the floor, Love,” she said to Kendis. “It’s slippery. Mr. Montford, you remember my soul-mate, Kendis?” she asked politely. Where he’d hit her was bruising, her cut lip beginning to swell, but she felt much stronger with Kendis just near her. She felt calm and very clear-headed, all of her senses sharp and heightened.

“S...s...s...sou...soul mate? You have a soul-mate?!” he stammered, sliding backwards on his behind towards the door.

  *

Damn. Soul-mates can always find each other! Oh why the hell hadn’t he checked on that boy? He began to panic. He’d thought he was just her sleep buddy. Damn. Maybe pain/pleasure will work on him…

Kendis turned his head and eyed Montford, taking in his nakedness - and Jade’s. He looked back at Montford and controlled himself. He wouldn’t snap the man in two - yet. He felt a buzzing in his mind and stared at Montford with curiosity.

“Are you trying to make me angrier? I believe you just tried to hit me with pain/pleasure esa. Don’t you know that’s against the law without my permission? It doesn’t work on me, so stop.”

  He locked the door.

Montford fetched up against the door and heard the lock click shut. He started sweating. How the hell had he known what he’d tried to do? Who were these people
