  “My pleasure, Jade. I must go now, there’s a fight down the slope and my partner, Owl, needs my help. It would be much better if we could find his suppressor but we’re making do with these communications devices. I’ll see you later, Kendis and Jade,” and it flew off down the slope.

  “Kendis, what’s going on out there?”

  She could hear faint noises - gunfire, shouting - from outside but they weren’t near. She landed on the floor next to him.

  “He has a small army. We thought there was a gun on the roof here but it hasn’t fired yet.”

  “Yeah, well, I broke it.” She shrugged and smiled at him, her heart filled with love for him.

  He was magnificent: he hadn't stopped until he found her. She hadn’t doubted he would.

  She winced from the cut in her lip that pulled painfully when she smiled.
