Chapter 14 - Wings of Death

  Reroute to Venice

Grace found Daedalus and a flamboyantly dressed vampire locked in mortal combat upon the bridge. At last she had found the creature that had haunted her nightmares for so many years.

He looked younger than she remembered, and unexpectedly fetching. Varney suddenly gained the upper hand and threw Daedalus against a nearby pilot’s chair, knocking the wind out of him. Varney then noticed Grace.

“Well…what have do we here? It would appear you have killed my dear Nasrin, no matter, I was growing tired of her anyway.” Varney laughed. His ice blue eyes were full of ageless malice.

“You are the bastard that killed my father!” Grace screamed.

“Did I…It is so hard to keep track of those I devour and let me assure you, that you won’t be remembered either.” Varney leapt at Grace, who rolled out of the way emptying her pepper-boxes.

The Vampire realized he might be at a disadvantage and decided that he should live to terrorize another day. When he saw St. Mark’s Square approaching through the blasted windows, he made his escape.

“This get together has been so very amusing but I must take my leave. I am sorry, that I did not get to drink you dry. I am sure we shall meet again.”

Daedalus rushed to stop Grace from following Varney as he leapt out the ship’s front window. Grace screamed in frustration as the Vampire escaped.

Grace broke free from Dr. Daedalus, knocking him down. She ran to the window and saw Varney falling toward the earth below. She then turned to Daedalus as he scrambled to his feet. A smile spread on her face as she leapt through the window after Varney.

Daedalus watched in horror as Grace opened her Icarus Glider and swooped at Varney. He saw Grace fumble with what appeared to be a small bottle and a familiar looking lightening gun. The bottle ignited and exploded as Grace caught fire. Now aflame she flew straight at Varney like a predatory bird, she slammed into him and spun wrapping him in her fiery wings.

Daedalus could hear Varney’s screams as the flames licked his body and the mad laughter of Grace Flynn as she took revenge for her father.

The most dangerous woman alive and the Vampire fell to earth in a ball of flame. Daedalus also leapt from the dirigible, when he realized it was also on fire as smoke came from below deck. His own Icarus Glider cranked open and he glided toward the nearby Pendragon. The enemy dirigible now ablaze continued on its path to destruction out upon the open sea.
