Blood pulsed loud in his ears. He pulled the short sword from its scabbard and pointed it at the bear to look threatening. “Stop right there!”
The blood-shot eyed bear ignored him and loomed in his vision as a huge paw rushed at him. The halfling dropped to the ground, gaining a face full of snow.
He flipped over as fast as he could and scrambled aside when the shaggy paw swiped the snow where his head had been.
Fandi-La screamed with fright. “Look out!”
The halfling swung the dagger with all his might, but it glanced off the bear’s thick coat.
The snow bear bellowed with rage.
Fandri stumbled backwards and the bear moved in to strike.
“Noooo.” The fairy flew in the bear’s face to distract it from killing her halfling.
Lurching forward to pounce on the halfling, the bear failed to see the tiny fairy and inhaled her by accident.
