Read Kiss of Stone Page 28

  Chapter 19

It was evening and the cool air stirred him awake. Samosa’s warm body was next to him. Her breathing was soft- each rise and fall of her chest matched the beat of his heart. His black heart. He reached out and pushed back a tendril of hair.

  Her eyes snapped open.

Before Stone could say hi to his darling woman. The one whom he loved- she surprised him with a shrill scream and began thrashing against the comforter.

“Sam!” He yelled and tried restraining her. Her eyes had gone white, rolling up in her head and her upper lip had a sheen of sweat on it.

No no no, this was not supposed to happen.

Stone placed his palm over her forehead and said soothing words, calming words in his language to bring her back to normal.

The thrashing ceased, but her eyes were milk white. “What is happening?” He shook her and called her name out so many times that Korin floated in the room with worry lines over his face.

  “What happened?”

Stone slowly shook his head back and forth. He did not know. All he knew was that for the first time, the pinpricks beneath his eyelids tickled and he knew beyond a doubt he would do something he never thought a jinni was capable of.

He let the warm liquid spill from his lids as he cradled Samosa in his arms.

  He was crying.

“She is not dead, but she might as well be.” Korin said.

“Shut your damn trap! She ain’t nowhere near dead!”

“Stone,” Korin said calmly. Stone squeezed his eyes shut. That way he did not have to see Samosa’s beautiful limp body and cream white eyes, and Korin’s honest face. His honesty will get him killed if he came any closer.

Korin stayed near the entrance. “Playing with demons and praying to God did not work in her favor.” He sighed. “One cannot serve two masters.”

“Who? Samosa? I served her. Not the other way around.”

“Brother…whether you know it or not, Samosa chose you. She was willing to sacrifice her own soul just to have you. That’s how much you own her.”

“No. That’s how much we love each other.”

Stone went back to rocking back and forth. Samosa’s hair was so sweet. So sweet…

“Her cravings went away and you have your powers restored, but the both of you should have known-”

“No- You!” Stone pointed an accusing finger at Korin. “This is all your fault. Everywhere I find you there is dung in my life.”

Korin hung his head down. “I never meant for this to happen. I took every precaution. You and Samosa I consider as my friends. My only real friends. You know I will never intentionally hurt you.”

Stone laughed sarcastically as he cradled Samosa in his arms.

“Please. Let me see her and try to help.”

“You come any closer and I will lop your head off Korin Striata. Try me.” Stone’s words were not minced and he could see fear in Korin. Smell it.

“Please. I owe you that much.”

Stone rocked Samosa a few more seconds before nodding once for Korin to come over. Korin looked into her face and he touched her ears, nose, and eyes. Her lovely eyes had just turned back gold last night and now…they were dead white.

“She can be restored but…” Korin laid a palm to her head and thirty seconds ticked by. Stone grew impatient. “She seems to be trapped in some other zone. Here and not here. She still has her vital organs working and she is breathing steadily.”

Suddenly, Samosa’s eyes rolled back to her normal gold colored pupils and Stone hugged her to his chest. She did not speak, just looked dazed.

“What did you do to wake her?”

“Nothing,” Korin said truthfully. “Nothing at all.” Take her to a doctor soon. I think she invited this as her life’s fate.”

Stone ordered Korin out as he lay with Samosa. Already he missed her voice and her easy smile and her attitude.

Some nights, since returning to the states- he would wake up and talk to her. He would wake and find her floating or walking around the room in some sort of trance.

Days flew into weeks and months and her lingerie grew tighter and tighter around her belly. Evidence he would be a father soon. The GM will not have it. Babies would place jinn on the level of a god.

But one day, while he lay in bed, Samosa spoke one word:

  “Diyaa.”

Her lips were pressed against Stone’s ear. She whispered it again-deep in his ear canal and the word traveled to his damaged heart.

  Diyaa.

  Diyaa.

  Samosa spoke.

  Now Stone believed in miracles.

  *Further Notes*

Interested in the world of the jinn and how they fit in your world? Here are some handy names and places common to the series.

  Names and Definitions

*Jinn(plural)Jinni(singular)- a genie or demon that grants wishes but with consequence.

*Stone of the Ice Rings or Stone- a jinni born on the outer rings of Saturn thousands of years ago. He, like other jinn, was born of smoke and fire. His core power is producing fire with his fingers, some weak form of mind reading and of course, granting wishes.

*Samosa Green- a thirty year old community college student and divorcee, living a life of poverty.

*Korin- another jinni and close friend of Stone’s. He delights more in reading and the meditative arts rather than granting wishes. Described as tall, blond and extremely handsome, whereas Stone is tall, dark and handsome. Bonus: Korin has mood color eyes!

*Reptilian Battalion- Cyn’s beasts which carries out her dirty work across the galaxy, and right now their sights and mission is to take out those who are marked for fortune on earth but there may be another agenda. The Reptilian Battalion resembles half lizard half men with very large teeth.

*Cyn- is a mystery. Stone’s ex from many, many years ago.

  Locations and Worlds

*Hampton, Virginia- small quaint city closely attached to Newport News yet some names of places have been changed for the sake of this fictional story.

*The Multiverse- is kind of complicated to describe. Wikipedia describes it as a “hypothetical set of infinite or possible finite universes”. For the sake of this fictional work, when someone is within the multiverse it is equivalent to walking on dark glass and being surrounded by windows, looking out and viewing the galaxy.
