Read Noobs Guide to Quality Web Sites, The Page 4

There is one more step though. Once you have the image uploaded, you will need to click Insert into Page/Post. You can fill in all of the fields as you see fit, this isn’t necessary but it will help out a lot when it comes to Google and other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing.

Once you have your picture uploaded and your pages text content the way you want it, you need to make sure you click the blue Publish or the blue Update button. If you don’t actually click the publish or update button all of your hard work will be for nothing. The pages won’t actually save until you hit one of those two buttons. You can also save as a draft if you decide to wait on publishing your new page or post.

Now, back to the Dashboard, or you can just click the Posts tab to the left. The posts work EXACTLY the same way as the pages. So we will just skip through this part really quick.

You only have a couple of different options, Tags and Categories. Tags are what help people find the content. They are really useful when it comes to SEO as well because all of the tags will link to relevant content to the user as well as to the Google search bots.

The categories work just like you would imagine, they will break the content up into multiple categories just like on Craigslist and eBay. This will obviously help you maintain order on your site even without the content being directly related.

These two options are very important to both your site and your users.

Again, this is almost the exact same thing as the pages otherwise so I don’t want to spend too much time posting to your blog.

  Using Plug-ins

Plug-ins are my favorite part of what separate Content Management Systems from a standard HTML page. Plug-ins basically just give you nearly unlimited functionality to your web site.

Some of my favorite plug-ins include WordPress SEO by Yoast, WP e-Commerce, JSL3 Facebook Wall Feed, Pinterest "Pin It" Button, Disable Comments and any other type of Social sharing buttons you can find. Myself, I usually choose Async Social Sharing.

To add a new plug-in you will need to first click on plug-ins on the left side bar then Add New. This will get you the screen below. Just search for any of the plug-ins I mentioned, or any new features you would want to have on your web site and click the Search Plugins button.

You will get to a screen similar to the one pictured below. To the right is a list of features or a description. If you need more information just click on the name of the plug-in or visit the official web site of the developer.
