What about now

It was three in the afternoon when she took her break from work. She had not called Sam. It had been three days since she heard about him. She hoped he was fine. They had dinner that Friday. They were going to support Autistic children in City Primary. It was a black tie event hosted by her bank. Sam had offered to be her date. She didn’t know whether any dress would be suitable.

Faith looked at the clock and hoped she could get the afternoon off. Sam’s article was all about love. He had titled it “Long distance love.”

He told the case of men who loved women who did not see that. The other tellers found it so true. Some thought the men too weak. They ought to man up and come clean! Some said so. She did not get the truth out of them. She wished there were such men-honest, loving and most of all truthful. She had a best friend whose words could reach any woman’s heart. How could that be? Anyway, she read to the end. Turns out when it comes to love, the longest distance is being right in front of the person you love and they don’t seem to notice it. It gets worse when they talk all about another they love.

She threw the newspaper on the counter and started updating the transaction records. She did not eat anything at lunch. She rested her thoughts for a while.

What about now? She was twenty six and financially stable. She had good friends and a life. It was simple wasn’t it? All she had to do was smile. It would be alright. She still loved Bellamy.

She looked at the CD Sam had bought her. It was “Daughtry’s album. Sam liked that band, so she slid it into the CD drive and clicked play. The first song that came up was “What about now…”
