Friday November 17th 1865 Kensington Manor, near London
Dearest Grenna,
Lord Blaisrel was just here and has only left this instant. He admitted to me that the man you have mentioned in your last letter was none other than the Duke of Denfordshires son, Lord Bromley Rochford. Apparently he keeps to himself a lot and also has a disliking of ladies crowding him there was never ever mention of him being spoken for, for if there was so he has kept this very quiet indeed. There was one girl mentioned but only in passing. I do not think I would like to chance to meet him, for it seems he is quite a difficult man for any lady of good heart to receive his attention. Not that I would of course but it’s just what I have heard that makes me feel less inclined to be acquainted with him. And also apparently he can be quite glum. Lord Blaisrel said you best do not to keep his company despite the fact that he is heir to a vast estate and title.
Just keep this in mind my dearest friend, I would not wish for you to spoil your heart with this cruel man.
Your friend affectionately
Bess

My dearest lady, thank you so much for the invitation to the Annual Ball at Bath to which I cordially accept. My Dearest Mama is so looking forward to seeing you. She tells me to send you her best regards and to ask after Mr Colin and the Lady Rosefeld.
