Read Under Suspicion - The Legend of D.B. Cooper Page 23
“Well it looks like you were right, Alan. It’s like falling off a log for you isn’t it?” Chet had always been impressed with his friend’s ability. “Maybe I can get some pictures when those Agents hit the boat.”
“Bull!” exclaimed Bradley. “Those jerks have a bust tonight and they didn’t let me in on it! They’re going to pay for that.”
“What are you talking about?”
Bradley didn’t answer. Instead, he trained his binoculars on the docks. There was only one open slip on dock D, while there were several in the other docks. It had to be dock D, he was sure of it. He knew that O’Leary would control the target zone environment as much as possible. Knowing O’Leary, Alan guessed that all the agents would be on Dock D and none would be on A, B or C.
“Here comes the boat,” Chet informed Alan.
Bradley looked down stream and saw the shadow come around the bend in the river. “We have to move fast,” he whispered.
“For what?”
“No time to explain. Just get your video camera and follow me. Whatever you do, don’t let that lookout see you. Now hurry.” Chet turned, then ran back to the Chief. Bradley crouched low and moved down the fence to the gate.
He took lock-picking utensils from his coat pocket, and inserted the metal sticks into the lock. As he turned them, the lock clicked and the gate opened. By that time Chet was back and crouching behind him. Staying low and looking around, they quickly made their way to the docks.
At the ends of docks A and B, respectively, there were two large boats tied up. One eighty foot sailboat, and the other a one hundred foot yacht. Too large for normal moorage, both were tied up at the end of each dock.
