The ambulance arrived and they were whisked away with the sirens screaming and the red lights flashing. Upon arrival at the emergency room of the hospital, Antonia explained the problems her husband had and he was admitted and his cancer doctor was contacted. She sat with him for a few hours and then went home to pick up Alessandra.

The door opened and her neighbor, Helen, invited her in. She walked in and saw Alessandra sitting with tears streaking down her cheeks. Antonia ran to her and wrapped her in her arms.

"Hush baby girl. Daddy is going to be fine. We must have faith."

She picked her up and walked back out to the door.

"Thank you Helen. You have been such a blessing to us. How can I ever repay you for all your help?"

"Now, don't you worry your pretty little head, darlin'. I have not much else to do since my husband passed. I love children and wish I could have my own back. Now, I would like you to bring Alessandra over tomorrow so she can go with me, my daughter, and grandchildren to visit Santa at the mall tomorrow. Would you like that Alessandra?"

Alessandra smiled and nodded her head.

"Oh no Helen, she saw Santa today at the mall. Unfortunately we had to leave right after that since Salvatore was not feeling well again."

"Well then, all the more reason for her to go with us. After seeing Santa we can have lunch together and browse some of the stores. I need the exercise you know." as she patted her well rounded mid section.

"If you are sure you don't mind. I would like to go to the hospital to spend some time with Salvatore. What time shall I bring her by?"

"Oh, around 9 A.M. if that's not too early?"

"No, that will be fine. Thank you Helen. Someday I will be able to pay you back for all this."
