Read Questioning Magic Page 4

He was completely numb and almost uncontrollably hungry as well now, more so then he can remember having ever been before. What was happening to him? He was unsure of everything at that moment. Ty’s whole body seemed to be buzzing with energy newly unleashed from some unknown, useable inner source. Then he heard a strange voice, a new unfamiliar voice which seemed to bring back flashes of the night of his eighteenth birthday which happened only moments ago as far as he knew.

Pacing once again, Valentine continued contemplating aloud “As their only son and heir to the throne they are unable kill me, and since I gave him my blood he is now a prince as well, due to the law of Blood Ties. What can they honestly do to me or him for that matter? They are stuck now, with Ahti and I both, with little or possibly no options, with such limited choices we should be considerably safe. They could possibly break the high laws themselves and kill the two of us… But they are too pretentious and so completely perfect, or at the very least they think they are, they could never break the high laws, never in all the millions of years that they have been alive…” He trailed off seeing Ty stirring from his slumber.

Head spinning as he slowly and cautiously sat up Ty spoke in a dry cracked voice “What in the hell is going on?” he tried to say more but nothing else seemed to come out due to the dryness of his mouth. Opening his eye’s to see his surroundings, Ty saw that he was in an unlit stone room surrounded by walls covered with chiseled depictions he could not understand, with no windows or doors that he could distinguish in any way, although for some reason he could see in the room clearly as if it were lit up, almost as well as if the room was filled with daylight.

A set of purple eyes fell on Valentine; they were beautiful and perfectly suited their owner’s features and presence. Seeing them made him smile fondly at the young man “Welcome back to the land of the living Ahti.” He spread his arms gesturing around him. “Well that’s a little anticlimactic and not technically true…” He then put his arms down to his sides and sat down on the stone table next to Ty. “Semantics, smantics my young friend...” Valentine said helping Ty to sit up while he continued speaking “Where should I begin… You’re in all honesty dead… But you’re also quite alive, or as mortals call us oh so unpleasantly, undead, a vampire, you’re a prince to be exact and your welcome for the royal blood by the way. A bit crude in my book but a vampire must do what he must do to survive in this crazy world of ours.”

Ty felt something warm and fleshy pushed to his mouth, his new instincts and his ravenous hunger took over. He bit into the wrist Valentine was offering him closing his eyes and drinking deeply, soaking in all the energy that it allotted him. It was sweet and intoxicating; he could feel the power within the royal blood that was filling his mouth and coursing down his throat, the power was making his body buzz even more, but this time in a soothing almost relaxing way. Opening his eyes in surprise hoping he wouldn’t see what he feared and knew had been pressed so strongly to his soft lips; Ty dropped the arm just as quickly as he had attached himself to it and wiped away the blood that had now turned his lips crimson.

“That’s very impressive, you’ve already figured out when you have had enough blood to drink. You are quite a quick learner aren’t you? Most of the time I would have to pry a new vampire off me to get it to stop, and then they would attempt to attack me to gain even more blood. Royal blood is especially intoxicating or so I hear.” Valentine flexed his hand and watched as his wrist quickly healed not leaving a single mark or scar where Ty had been drinking from.

His body was now strong enough to support itself, and his mouth was no longer dry, Ty stood up facing Valentine poking him hard in the chest with his finger “What the hell is going on here? Who the hell are you, and where is my mother?”

Shaking his head and smiling like he had seen Ty do the night before Valentine answered “You know me as Val, your gaming girlfriend. My real name though is Valentine, and as you can plainly see I am far from being a girl, although I am your friend in all truth. I also would not hinder you if you wanted to check closer to make sure I wasn’t a girl…” He said the last part with a wink and a wry smile. Valentine stood up from the stone table and crossed the room continuing to speak as he turned around to face Ty again “All joking aside where should I really begin?” He clasped his hands together for a moment before settling one on his hip and the other on his chin in thought, “Well I am a vampire” He said pointing to himself before pointing to Ty and continuing “and I made you one as well so the Coven wouldn’t be able to kill you. In actuality you were supposed to be killed, and I was supposed to be the one to kill you Ahti.” With a scowl of annoyance he announced the last part as if it were just another day for him “I just couldn’t do it though, all those years talking to you, getting to know you changed my mind and got me thinking about how best to change this world we live in so that we could continue our friendship.” With a broad grim and sad eyes Valentine added “I like you Ty, you’re a very nice person, and really funny. All the vampires around here are a bunch of uptight ‘greater than thou’ nepotists. You are going to bring so much more life and excitement to this pit of dullness, as well as help me to change the world as it is known, or in your case yet unknown.” He walked back to Ty and hugged him like an old friend becoming reacquainted after years of separation “We are going to be such amazingly good friends!” letting go but leaving a hand on Ty’s shoulder “I am sorry though to inform you, but I do not know how your mother is, but…” He reached into his pocket and handed Ty the purple leather bound book “I did manage to save this particular item. It is blank as far as I can see, but I have a feeling it won’t be for you, since you’re not only a vampire but a wizard.”

All the details of the book’s cover were now visible to Ty’s heightened sight; it had no words on the covers or spine, just an intricately designed pattern in the purple leather with leafy curling swirls going around its edges. Ty opened the book with Valentine looking over his shoulder, completely engulfed in his imagination of what might pop out of the book any moment now. As Valentine had told him the book was blank, at least it was when he first looked at the page. Then in what seemed like the blink of an eye the book was filled with the same writing as he had seen on the birthday cards from his father in the past though with much more text.

Hello my son, I am so very glad to be able to finally share with you this information. My name is Daemon; I am a wizard on the Council of the Elders. Your mother Kira is a witch of the Council, and we are both proud to call you our son. With your newly awakened powers you will become a very important magic wielder throughout the world. This book will change and it will adapt to whatever your situation may be when you use it. Don’t let anyone have this book, or even see it unless the book instructs you too, because if it got into the wrong hands it would cause untold amounts of trouble. As well this book will hide its contents if someone tries to look into it when they are not supposed to. If for any reason it does not hide the powerful secrets it holds then that is because whoever is seeing them is needed in order to assist you in some way. The ring that came with this book is one of a kind; white gold with a purple diamond, purple is the color of your personal magic. Purple is the color of both power and royalty, which suits you and who you will become in this confusing warring world. I don’t have the time to tell you everything, but you are a very intelligent young man and will figure out what to do as you go along in your trials and training.

I love you and hope this reaches you at a happy time,

  Daemon S. Howells

  Elder Council

  And your proud father

Valentines hands grabbed him as he began to fall from overpowering shock, fear, and other assorted emotions stirred in him as his mind whirled at the thoughts of what was just revealed to him. So much information flooded Ty’s mind all at once and erupted into a million thoughts and questions as they took over his mind. A vampire, a wizard, his father, his mother, and also Val, now proven to be someone entir
ely different from anything Ty could have ever guessed… All this new information all at once was just too much for him to handle so soon. With Valentines assistance he straightened himself up and gathered his thoughts seeking out which one was most important at this very moment. Having to assume the worst about his mother he thought aloud “My mom, she’s most likely dead, and I get the feeling that vampires and magic wielders are at war or something of that nature with each other for some yet unknown reason to me. Also because of whatever power I am supposed to have the vampires saw me as a threat, so they wanted me dead before I could use that power to harm them in some way, but you the vampire prince got some sort of man-crush on me so you changed the plans on them, which was completely against your parent’s commands and broke some sort of high law your people see as being important to follow. Is what I am assuming correct, or am I mistaken in some way?” He said staring at Valentine thoughtfully and full of anger.

Valentine smirked “Your father was right; you are a very smart young man. So far you’re pretty much caught up, except for one important part. As far as I know you are also the only wizard who has successfully been turned vampire in all of vampire history.” Giving a wink again he also said “And I do not have a man-crush on you or anyone else for that matter, I just have reasons beyond my parent’s comprehension to do the things that I have done and will continue to do as I see fit in my future. What kind of son would I be if I obeyed every order given to me, especially the ones that I feel so strongly against?”
